5 St Andrew’s Hill offer two 12 month pupillages each year. We recruit through the Pupillage Portal which opens in January . We run a fair selection process that aims to recruit bright candidates who also demonstrate flair and personality. The process comprises two interviews: the first includes both a general interview and a legal problem; the second takes the form of an advocacy exercise.
Both pupillages are funded to a total of £35,000, comprising of £20,000 for the first six months and £15,000 guaranteed earnings during the second six months. Additionally, pupils receive travel expenses for the first six months. Second six pupils can expect to regularly be in court.
Each pupil will have three supervisors over the course of the year and although primarily a criminal pupillage, there are opportunities for pupils to also experience civil work.
5SAH has added its name to the Bar Council’s Signatories to Best Practice Guideline in relation to Third Six Pupils.
Chambers looks to recruit tenants from its pupils and has a strong record of doing so.
Please apply via the Pupillage Gateway.
Chambers welcomes applications for mini-pupillage — a period of up to a week when those interested in pursuing a career at the Bar can spend time shadowing members of chambers. This offers the chance to see the Bar at work, the different kinds of law Chambers practises and ultimately helps mini-pupils decide if they want to apply to us for pupillage.
Applicants, who must be aged 18 or over, should send a letter and CV to the Mini-Pupillage Secretary, Daniel Jones, preferably by email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
