"There are plenty of social events for the office as a whole but my current team do not socialise much."
First year trainee, Manchester
"While there is obviously some hierarchy, everybody at every level is extremely approachable and more than happy to help with any questions you may have. People are really supportive and want you to develop well. Trainees regularly go out for drinks and there are also lots of whole-firm or team drinks and away days. I really feel part of a team."
Second year trainee, London
"I think the firm is very collaborative and inclusive. Everyone works as a team and people look out for their colleagues and recognise that everyone is a human being (not just a deal monkey). The social scene is quite good but unfortunately there isn't usually a great turnout at events due to everyone being very busy. However, when we do go out, everyone is always willing to stay out and have a good time."
First year trainee, London
"This varies from team to team. Certain departments are known to have a face-time culture while others encourage you to get out when you can and not sit around twiddling your thumbs."
Second year trainee, London
"Everyone is very approachable and there isn't a visible hierarchy as such."
First year trainee, Leeds
"People band together in work and it's rare that you are left alone to 'fight fires' per se. You can always ask someone a question and they are always willing to help. It's very different outside of work as it's rare to see other people (particularly those who aren't trainees) outside of the office."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"The atmosphere at AG is unbeatable. My colleagues are down-to-earth, helpful and decent people. The hours can, of course, be tough sometimes, particularly in transactional seats, but there is certainly not a face-time culture in any department I've been in."
Second year trainee, London
"If it's a good team, the culture is friendly. If it's not, there can be a hierarchy and a lot of politics."
Second year trainee, Leeds

"Hierarchy isn't forced on you and people at all levels are approachable. People do have time for you and always try to help where they can. Social life is good."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"There certainly isn't a culture of staying late for the sake of it at AG. There is a very good culture with people who really take an interest in your future."
First year trainee, London
"There is a structure and hierarchy in place though it is not vigorously enforced. I have worked with all members in my team. Culture is very cooperative and inclusive. There are numerous events and opportunities to socialise with colleagues outside of working hours."
First year trainee, Leeds
"The culture at the firm is great. We have free drinks in the Leeds office on the first Friday of every month. I believe we are one of the few firms that does this. Within the office interaction is great. While there is a sense of hierarchy, everyone is friendly and will talk to each other. I have worked closely with partners on certain tasks and work with others within the team. I don't just feel like a trainee and feel like the team really wants to get me involved. After hours we do some socialising, especially between the trainees. We always try and eat lunch together so that we can catch up with each other."
First year trainee, Leeds
"People are hard-working in the office but will make time for a chat, whether about work or otherwise. There are plenty of drinks after work, team lunches, and often client drinks to attend. This all helps us to integrate into teams."
Second year trainee, London
"For work, we like flat structures. Trainees get to work with partners as well as associates. For socialising, junior lawyers or those of similar level will naturally migrate together. You will always feel included for social events and drinks but these do tend to stick within departments."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"Little hierarchy, great team spirit, friendly and approachable."
First year trainee, Leeds

"I think that there is a very good firm culture, and that everybody is easy to talk to no matter their position. Teamwork is a key aspect of the role, and it feels easy collaborating with colleagues who are at a higher level."
First year trainee, Manchester
"Everyone who I have come across at the firm is friendly and approachable, making for a positive working environment."
First year trainee, Manchester
"The culture is very pleasant here. There is a clear structure, but the firm has an open-door policy, and it is very easy for junior staff to approach even the most senior partners. Socialising is common and is done at all levels."
Second year trainee, London
"I think that the firm has a very social atmosphere, there are no closed doors and fee earners at all levels are accessible. You have real support from your department and social events are regularly arranged for each team/office."
First year trainee, Leeds
"At the firm we work hard but we celebrate successes together. There is a non-hierarchical feel to the firm: partners are approachable, as are others within the firm at any level."
First year trainee, Leeds
"Although personally I believe that communication could be improved between the graduate team and the trainees, I do see the firm as friendly, and all the trainees get on. There is limited hierarchy and everyone is approachable."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a big emphasis on cooperation and teamwork within the teams and between the divisions."
First year trainee, Manchester
"I find that people are very social and easy to talk to. You work closely with partners and managing associates and it never feels like a hierarchical atmosphere is imposed. There's no need to hang around at your desk if you are quiet, but during busy periods, there is an appreciation that you are putting effort/hours in."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"Although it can vary between departments; the firm has a relatively flat hierarchy. There's a big focus on teamwork here so there's never one person left isolated and struggling through work without a team around them. People often go for informal drinks and lunches with teams and others across the firm, as well as there being organised firm-wide social events."
First year trainee, London

2013

"Team work is key in our firm. The firm is not hierarchical. The title 'partner' is an indication of how experienced and knowledgeable someone is, not how unapproachable someone is."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"Socialising among trainees is brilliant, we go out every Friday. The firm's culture is very relaxed, we all work very hard but equally the hours are very reasonable as are the people."
First year trainee, London
"Certain teams integrate more than others. In Banking for example, the teams often go out for drinks and with clients. Good level of team work in Litigation, for example."
Second year trainee, London
"Very open and sociable. Everyone is always approachable and honest."
First year trainee, Leeds
"Addleshaw Goddard is a very friendly firm to work for and partners are, pretty much without exception, easily approachable."
Second year trainee, Manchester
