The Grampian Growth Model was initiated by Scottish Water in response to the substantial levels of development activity predicted across the region over the next 20 years. AECOM successfully built a large scale computerised model of the mains network for use as a hydraulic tool to assess the impact of the growth and develop sustainable measures to ensure all customers, both existing and future, continue to receive the highest possible level of service.
For the Jeddah Stormwater Drainage Programme AECOM delivered fast-tracked solutions including 10 flood-protection dams and 170km of channels and conduits to protect the city’s 3.5 million residents.
Dunoon WwTW and Collection and Transfer Scheme. AECOM’s Water team in Glasgow were involved in the project from feasibility to completion, designing a series of pumping stations to collect sewage from the local area and transfer it to a new treatment works constructed within a disused quarry. The project was multi-disciplinary with mechanical, electrical, process, civil and geotechnical engineers all working collaboratively to create an optimised design within the limited boundary of the quarry. The work was to enable compliance with the EU Urban Waste Water Directive (UWWTD) to improve the quality of the sewerage effluent discharges to the receiving waters.
Seven Lochs Wetland Park in Glasgow AECOM identified opportunities to protect and enhance the existing wetland habitat whilst also undertaking strategic water environment restoration including habitat creation, de-culverting, channel naturalisation and habitat restoration.

Our graduates work across the eight water teams in Scotland gaining a range of experience in various specialisms and on a variety of projects. You will work alongside our experienced engineers as you develop technical and professional skills with a focus on sustainable water management.
We support our graduates to pursue their professional development through professional organisations such as ICE or CIWEM. This is complimented by AECOM’s Graduate Development programme providing broader development and training and an opportunity to meet with other graduates.
Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Technical design of Integrated Catchment Management, Hydraulic Modelling (Clean and Foul), Hydrology, Sustainable Drainage, Water Sensitive Urban Design, Mains Infrastructure Design (Clean and Foul), Non-Infrastructure Design (Pumping Stations, Storage Tanks), Dam and Reservoir design, Hydro-power
- Conducting site visits, to develop a wider understanding of how designs are implemented.
- Working with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management
- Feasibility reports and business cases
- Data capture and asset record
- BEng in Civil, Electrical or Environment Engineering (2:1 or equivalent)
- An MEng in Civil, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering (2:1 or equivalent) would be preferred
- Modules in water management, hydraulics and design projects would be an advantage
- Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive.
- Basic computer skills essential (Word/Excel) and good report writing skills beneficial.
