This role is based in the Surface Technology team in Filton, Bristol. This Internship provides a superb environment for you to develop as a professional engineer as well as the opportunities to work closely with other departments enabling you to broaden your experience; build your professional network and contribute to a wide variety of exciting real-world projects.
The Surface Technology team is responsible for defining the corrosion protection of aircraft structure by their participation throughout the research, design, manufacture and in-service life of the aircraft. The team includes specialists in sealants,
coatings, lubricants, elastomers, metallic coatings and treatments.
Start date: 3rd July 2017
Duration: 12 Months
This role offers a flexible approach allowing the successful candidate to be involved in a broad range of activities. Some tasks/projects you can expect to contribute to may include:
- Testing, measurement and characterisation of materials and coatings to evaluate their performance in the laboratory
- Physical, mechanical and chemical testing, along with optical and electron microscopy
- Analysis of results
- Development of test methods and/or mathematical descriptions/modelling of degradation processes, if required and depending on the skill and preferences of the Intern
- Gaining an understanding of key degradation mechanisms and in-service behaviour
- Prevent corrosion through the use of prevention materials
You must be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement, studying towards a degree in one of the following subjects:
- Materials Science
- Engineering (Aeronautical/Aerospace, Chemical or Mechanical)
- Good understanding of MS Office
- MatLab/CATIA experience preferred
- Laboratory experience beneficial
