Operational Management Internship
The single aisle programme is Airbus's most profitable and successful aircraft variant manufacturing over 40 wing sets per month and rising.
Working within the single aisle wing manufacturing facility in the Broughton plant the successful candidates will be placed within the operational team within wing assembly and wing equipping this department is responsible for manufacturing wing sets before the final assembly line process in Toulouse and Hamburg.
The single aisle department is the largest within Broughton and the team consists of over 1500 operators, engineers and support staff to ensure this critical manufacturing process achieves the cost and quality commitments demanded by our customers. Working within single aisle operations, you will be given the best possible understanding of the physical, financial and social challenges faced by large corporations.
This placement will give you the opportunity to lead performance improvement projects, work on the analysis of rate increase and gain real life experience in the world of aircraft manufacture.
As part of this placement you will also be given the opportunity to spend time in other departments in Broughton including A350 and A380 to give you a broad experience of the products and processes Airbus employs to manufacture wings in the UK.
For this internship you will be based in an operational area, giving you first-hand experience of wing manufacturing in the UK.
You will be working in one of three areas of the single aisle wing manufacturing process:
- Wing Assembly
- Wing Equipping
- Single Aisle Step Change
During your internship you will be supporting, on time and efficiently, a manager or a team in operational, planning or organisational tasks.
Reporting to the operational management team in the business area, you will be given specific tasks and responsibilities to help the business achieve its operational objectives. Topics will include:
- Environmental Planning.
- Small investment business cases and spend management.
- NPO (Non Payroll Overhead) spend and improvement projects.
- Operator involvement scheme support.
- Understanding and support of the EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) controller in driving health and safety related improvement projects.
The activities undertaken throughout the year will give you sound experience of working in a manufacturing environment using Lean principles, project planning, practical problem solving and ICT tools.
You must be an undergraduate for the duration of the placement studying towards a business or relevant engineering degree.
You should also have experience of working in groups or teams, and technical interests outside of your studies are favourable.
