Description of the job

Our UK Graduate Programme provides exceptional graduates the opportunity to master managerial and technical skills. Over the two year period it combines rotational placements with focused training and the possibility of European assignments as well as further personal development and the chance to build your professional network.

From day one, you will be assigned to a particular department and will be guided through the various placement opportunities that exist within your function, the wider business and even with customers and suppliers. This, along with training provided works to ensure you are ready and experienced enough to take the next step of your career following the programme's conclusion.

A number of opportunities are available to join the Airbus Defence & Space 2017 Graduate Programme within the Secure Communications business line. As a Graduate Network Engineer you have the opportunity to work within the following functional engineering areas:

  • Support Engineering: Ground Communications
  • Network Architecture/Engineering
  • Secure Infrastructure and Systems Engineering

The functional areas comprise subject matter experts in all aspects of network design which are responsible for the design and development of networks, including network and service management systems, to deliver services to our customers in line with their evolving needs. The departments are also responsible for applying best practice to ensure the continued integrity and security of the networks (the "System Design Authority" function). The functional areas support programmes in Ministry of Defence (MoD), NATO, Blue Light (emergency services) and Intelligence.


Main activities will include:

  • Involvement in all aspects of System Engineering from initial design, build, test and verification through to installation, commissioning and through life support.
  • Performing and documenting network design tasks. This includes agreeing requirements, deliverables and milestones for a scope of work within the overall project and then designing and rolling out their designs to customers across the world.
  • Carrying out change and upgrades to current systems and implementing improvements to both service and technical solutions.
  • Assisting with the development of new products through the R&D programme.

These roles will be based at Hawthorn (Corsham) or Newport (must be flexible) and will receive the full Airbus Defence & Space

Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of £26,000, plus a welcome payment of £2,000.


Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • At minimum, a 2:1 degree or equivalent qualification in IT, Telecommunications, Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
  • An interest in starting a career in the Network/Communications/IT arena.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
