Procurement has undergone a fundamental shift in the development of people, skills and competencies in recent years. We are looking to attract and develop Procurement specialists who can proactively manage and develop suppliers as well as recruit potential future leaders within the business. A key component of this change programme has been the recruitment of Graduates, with many going on to fill first line management and key Procurement Management roles with direct responsibilities; typically for a portfolio of high value contracts.

The format of the programme provides an ideal opportunity for Graduates to experience many of the different facets of the relationship between procurement and its internal customers, as well as its suppliers.

This role will be based in Bristol, Filton (must be flexible) and will receive the full Airbus UK Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of £27,000 plus a welcome payment of £2,000.

The Procurement function is responsible for securing and managing all external resources to support Airbus business operations.

As a company, Airbus procures a significant proportion (> 75% by value) of each aircraft it builds, from suppliers across the globe. Commodities required to directly produce an aircraft include everything from nuts and bolts to high value cutting edge computers for flight control systems.

Furthermore the Procurement function also secures raw materials for use in our factories, the equipment and buildings on our sites, as well as all the materials and services required to continue our business operations.

The Procurement teams (Airframe, Materials, Equipment, Engine and General) are the main interface between Airbus and the supplier and the other Airbus stakeholders, such as, programmes, final assembly lines, engineering, finance and estimating. The main focus of procurement is strategic supplier relationship management and contract management and, as a result, travel is involved to visit suppliers or transnational teams across Europe, build and maintain relationships, negotiate contracts, as well as for product awareness, product support, factory supply chain capability and research. The department works with hundreds of major suppliers worldwide; therefore the ability to be outgoing and build relationships is an intrinsic requirement.

Procurement leads business improvement projects such as cost reduction exercises, supply chain improvements and transfers of work to new suppliers. Managing new product introduction is also a key function and selecting, then managing new suppliers in preparation for deliveries on new development Aircraft is a major activity for the whole department. In short, a significant proportion of Airbus annual turnover is defined through the contracts that Procurement negotiates and manages, and as such, this function is a key contributor to the financial success of the company and, specifically, bottom line performance.
