"Trainers have been excellent so far. They provide structured feedback, are very considerate, do not let you feel like you are thrown into the deep end of the pool and really take an interest in seeing you develop and grow as a lawyer."
First year trainee, London
"There is a structured training programme and on the whole associates are very good at giving recognition for good work but the level of mentoring and training will depend on the trainer that you have and their own interests and time commitments."
First year trainee, London
"People are generous in recognising good work and in acknowledging the work you have done for others (your trainer for example). The on-the-job training/mentoring is pretty good and people are approachable though feedback on specific pieces of work is not as forthcoming as might be helpful. A bit more in terms of career mentoring could be also helpful. On the whole though, it is pretty solid."
Second year trainee, London
"Most people I have worked with are very approachable and very willing to give feedback. Don't expect much praise though; an extremely high standard is expected at all times. There is always room for improvements, especially as a trainee because you are learning all the time."
First year trainee, London
"On the whole, trainers are good mentors but this depends on how much of a good rapport you are able to build up. Most people are willing to listen and give advice. I think it depends on who you build relationships with and feel comfortable talking to. Partners are less accessible (even if your trainer is a partner) as they are notoriously busy, attend a lot of meetings and spend a lot of time on the phone with clients."
First year trainee, London
"This depends very much on the lawyer in question. Most of the trainers take their roles fairly seriously and are approachable, but not all. There are supposed to be two formal occasions for feedback per seat. How much more you get depends on your colleagues."
Second year trainee, London
"In my experience, feedback is frequent and thorough (when time allows)."
First year trainee, London
"My trainer experiences have been very positive. Both trainers have taken time out from busy days to provide feedback on tasks and often give me work that it would be quicker for them to do themselves in order to challenge me. The wider team also provides valuable feedback. Praise and criticism are offered freely."

"The firm has a thorough and fair review process. There is also a good mentoring scheme with more senior trainees when you join. These senior lawyers make great trainers/supervisors."
First year trainee, London
"Supervisors are generally good at giving feedback and recognition. In my experience though, Partners can be a bit far removed to provide feedback."
Second year trainee, London
"Senior solicitors are very accessible. During a six month seat you have two reviews (mid-seat and end of seat) but I have always received feedback on an ongoing basis. Some partners and associates are better than others at giving feedback."
Second year trainee, London
"In my current department the senior lawyers are all fantastic for feedback and mentoring; all very easy to talk to and genuinely interested in helping you. In my previous department though this was not always the case; I wasn't really given much feedback and didn't feel the seniors were quite as approachable."
First year trainee, London
"Trainers will take the time to explain concepts/matters to you in detail and review and comment on your work on a daily basis."
First year trainee, London
"I have had some excellent supervisors and all associates make time to explain work and talk about other issues as well."
