Technical Graduate Scheme

As an Allianz Technical Graduate you can be assured that life will never be dull, each day will be different and you will never stop learning and evolving! Underwriting is the foundation of any insurance company and the quality of our underwriters is pivotal to Allianz’s success as one of the market’s leading insurers. The role of a graduate is not insignificant and you’re given real opportunities to seek new business, develop existing relationships and renew existing cases, usually across multiple lines of business. No risk is the same, so you’ll need to use your strong analytical and trading skills, as well as technical knowledge to influence our brokers and develop strong trading relationships.

Depending on your placement, you can expect to work in one of our UK-wide offices specialising in our commercial, small and medium enterprises (SME), engineering or personal lines areas. A wide variety of products are available and as a Technical Graduate you could gain experience in underwriting hotels, casino, construction projects, sporting arenas, listed buildings, film production and motor sports - to name just a few!

All graduates are provided with a breadth of experience by spending time in several different types of businesses. Depth of experience is gained by focusing on more specific risk categories, individual products or developing links with brokers. Depending on your placement, you could find yourself taking charge of your own cases and building up your underwriting authority levels in our commercial team, contributing to pricing decisions, developing underwriting strategy and new business opportunities within our personal lines team or working more directly with policy holders in our SME area.

Support, training and progress

Allianz has a strong focus on supporting students in their studies and on the technical scheme knowledge is key. You’ll be assigned dedicated study days and the funding you need to successfully complete the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII). In addition to your CII qualification you’ll also complete Allianz’s market-leading Underwriting Academy. You’ll have direct access to our buddying and mentoring schemes, which are a great way to make connections throughout the business and to learn more about our work. In addition, you’ll have opportunities to visit our key stakeholders and we’ll also put you in touch with other Allianz graduates, so that you can share your experiences with your peers and build a network with the business managers of tomorrow.

As Underwriting is key to any insurance company, developing your skills in this core area opens the door to a whole range of opportunities - from progressing into a Senior Underwriter or Technical Management role to Pricing or Account Management. Equally you could pursue a career in Risk Surveying, in Sales, or even Operations. The opportunities are as varied and broad as the business and your aspirations!
