Graduate Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

About the role

Right now we’re looking for Graduate Mechanical Engineers to join our team of bright professionals across several of our UK offices. From your first day, you’ll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification.

You’ll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you’ll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we’ll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.
 
Typical responsibilities could include:

  • Designing, calculating and specifying building services systems, including heating, ventilation and cooling
  • Working with building users and clients to agree design briefs that respond to users’ needs
  • Designing environmental and energy strategies and masterplans
  • Developing sustainable design solutions for building environments
  • Developing thermal and energy models to analyse building physics
  • Collaborating with architects and other designers in meetings and workshops to prepare and coordinate integrated building designs
  • Spatial coordination, including the use of 3D and Building Information modelling (BIM)
  • Preparing sketches, drawings and models
  • Undertaking technical studies and writing reports
  • Visiting construction sites and liaising with contractors and commissioning engineers
  • Carrying out visual surveys and investigations

You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in the following fields: Electrical Engineers, Environmental Services Engineers, Structural Engineers, Architects, Fire Engineers, Acousticians, Cost Consultants and Project Managers.

What we look for

We encourage our Graduate Mechanical Engineers to demonstrate creative problem solving, innovation, drive and motivation, a keen interest in buildings and the built environment, and a desire to effectively deliver an excellent service to our clients. As such, we are looking for the following qualifications, skills and attributes in you:

Qualifications

  • Preference for a Masters degree in Mechanical, Architectural, or Building Services Engineering or other related discipline, at 2.1 or above, however strong Bachelors degrees in these subjects will also be considered
  • Studying, or have studied, an IMechE, CIBSE or Engineering Council accredited course

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team working and collaboration
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in your work
  • Understanding the needs of clients and the project team members
  • Strong analytical skills; scripting, graphical representation and visualisations
  • Commercial awareness
  • An understanding of and an interest in sustainability
  • An understanding of Revit or 3D modelling software is an advantage, but is not essential

Additional Information

The deadline for applications is 31st December 2017, although assessments will begin earlier, so we strongly recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible. Our Graduate Welcome Week will take place in September 2018. Although we may be able to be flexible on start dates we would ask that the successful candidates will join their peers for this event.
