Training Contract - Summer Scheme
We’re looking for exceptional candidates who will be an asset to our firm, but we also know that we need to impress the best candidates. To see if we’re right for each other, you can attend our Summer Scheme, which provides an honest insight into working at Ashfords.
On the Summer Scheme you will spend a week at our Exeter office working in two departments, getting to grips with some challenging yet rewarding tasks. You’ll also spend time with our current trainees, getting first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to be on the trainee programme.
For those applicants who attend the Summer Scheme, the Assessment Centre takes place on the final day.

Types of work
Our three divisions - corporate & commercial, real estate and infrastructure, and private client - cover a wide range of practice areas, including corporate, commercial property, dispute resolution, projects, employment, intellectual property, trusts and estates, residential property and equity release. We advise clients across a number of industries with a focus on technology, energy & waste, retail and the public sector. We service clients internationally through our ADVOC network of independent law firms, and work on a number of cross border transactions.

You will experience four areas of law during your training contract, spending six months getting to grips with each department. You have a choice of either a Bristol or a South West based training contract. Our South West trainees have the opportunity to work across our Exeter, Taunton and Plymouth offices. We also offer flexibility to trainees to complete a seat in our London office if the opportunity arises. To make sure that everything is on-track you will meet with your supervisor during each seat to review your development. Our trainees play an integral role in business development and marketing, they are involved in a variety of events giving exposure to our diverse client base for networking.

We have structured development programmes at each career level across the firm giving you greater control of your career progression by providing you with the tools, expertise and support to identify and act upon areas of your career development.
As a trainee you will be part of our trainee development programme which will include structured courses (including the PSC) delivered by leading consultants as well advocacy training, law firm finances, tenders and time management.
