Health Physics

When it comes to safety, we insist on the highest standards – everywhere. Especially in our radiological projects at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. Over the course of two years, you’ll move from team to team, learning how we protect our people and the environment while we work on critical projects.

Where you can join us

Places on our Health Physics graduate programme for Autumn 2018 are available within our Marine (Plymouth) sector. But no matter which team you join, you could be based anywhere in the UK. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

What you'll be doing 

Any kind of nuclear engineering is complex, but when you’re working on the newest class of submarines in the MOD’s fleet, you’re faced with new challenges every day. As part of a team of people with lots of different skills, you’ll make sure that the site’s safety arrangements are always up to scratch.

What you'll get out of it

We’ll match your passions to your skills to help you build a long-term career, starting with a competitive starting salary of £28k-£30k as you’re doing it.* We’ll help you progress towards full membership of the Society for Radiological Protection and then Chartered status as a Radiation Protection Professional (CRadP).

What you'll need

You’ll need a 2:2 BSc (Hons) degree in a science subject. Any kind of postgraduate qualification in this area, such as an MSc or PG(Dip) in Radiological Protection, would be very useful too. You’ll also need to satisfy the MOD’s security requirements (and may need to complete a medical assessment).
