Applied Intelligence Graduates (AIG)
Every year our Applied Intelligence business takes on over 100 graduates. The project-driven nature of this advanced technology business means that graduates are able to join the business in any month of the year.
Our Applied Intelligence business delivers solutions which help our clients to protect and enhance their critical assets in the connected world. As a graduate in BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, you’ll have the opportunity to enter one of three roles within our business:
- Graduate Consultant
- Graduate Engineer
- Delivery Management Graduate
While each role is different, everyone at BAE Systems shares a dedication to finding and creating the right solutions for our clients. We offer a unique blend of learning on the job, while being supported by the very best in the industry to make sure you hit the ground running. We offer you real responsibility from your first day, with the ability to work on cutting edge, industry leading technology projects, where you make a real difference.
1. Graduate Consultant
We offer you the opportunity to work on a range of projects with different clients during your time as a Graduate Consultant, depending on your skills, interests and our clients’ current business needs.
Our Graduate Consultants are often the bridge between the business and the technical delivery teams and operate across the full length of the project lifecycle; from helping to identify the problem and defining the solution, to implementing and managing the change required for our clients to reach their goals.
As a Graduate Consultant, you could work across a number of disciplines within our business; these include: Business Consulting, Technical Consulting, Security Consulting, Data Consulting, Creative Consulting and Business Analysis.
As a Business Consultant your role may involve elements of defining a client’s strategy, developing their future operating model and/or defining and supporting the client’s organisational change. You will be involved throughout the full lifecycle of projects and programmes from early visioning/baselining activities through to a focus on sustainability, transition to business as usual and the delivery of benefits.
As a Technical Consultant you will help clients to solve complex problems, meeting their business needs with solutions appropriate to their business strategy that have a significant technology or information systems component.
Cyber Security Consultant
As a Cyber Security Consultant you will help clients clearly understand their exposure to cyber security threats/risks and put in place pragmatic and cost effective controls. You will identify, manage and treat risk to a client’s information technology assets.
As a Data Scientist you will understand how to gain specific insight from data in order to address a business problem. You will creatively apply data science approaches to develop analytic results which turn data into information, information into knowledge and insights, and valuable, actionable insights into better decision making and game-changing strategies.
As a Business Analyst you will work with our clients as part of a team to identify business issues or areas for improvement, capture requirements, develop and improve processes and support the development of business cases for future change.
2. Graduate Engineer
As a Graduate Engineer in our Applied Intelligence business, you will work as part of a project team, alongside skilled and experienced individuals who are motivated to train and coach you on the day-to-day skills required to work closely with our customers, both internal and external.
- You will learn the tools, techniques and approaches used by engineering professionals and apply them in a controlled environment to ensure projects are delivered on time, to quality and to budget.
- You will be placed into a number of disciplines within the business (depending on your background and aspirations!); these include: Engineering Management, Software Engineering, Application Support & Maintenance, Systems Engineering & Architecture, Physical Science & Technology and Infrastructure Engineering.
- You could also be placed into one of the following project roles, depending on your skills and aspirations:
As a new graduate, we expect you to be ready to tackle (and enjoy!) programming tasks from the outset, but we will take the time to mentor you through smaller packages of work and enhancements to our product range. You will work primarily in Java, however we always look for the best framework for the job; some of our developments use c# .net, c++ and html5 technologies.
Our Electronic Engineers design and develop analogue and digital electronics, VHDL and embedded/low level software for a wide range of electronic systems. We expect you to take responsibility and tackle a number of different development tasks in different disciplines.
Working under guidance from our expert engineers you could implement complex signal-processing algorithms in VHDL, debug the RF chain on a software radio, develop embedded software to run on low power microcontrollers or develop ruggedised devices for challenging environments.
Test Analysts play a crucial role in the delivery of projects and their involvement starts at the requirements analysis stage. Initially, testing roles are likely to include defining and creating test cases from functional and technical specifications, executing test scripts and reporting the results clearly.
Cyber Security Technical Specialist
This is an exciting role for people who love computers and technology, working in the most deeply technical part of the Cyber Security domain. Whether it’s researching new technologies or creating software that makes a difference in the real world, you’ll always be working at the cutting edge of what’s possible.
3. Delivery Management Graduate
In our Applied Intelligence business, the role of a Delivery Management Graduate is to harness the expertise of our talented and highly experienced Programme Managers, Service Delivery Managers and Planning, Monitoring and Control professionals to successfully deliver a mixture of business and technical projects, programmes and IT services.
Our Delivery Management graduates have the opportunity to experience the range of services we offer our clients. They would typically operate across the entire project lifecycle and learn to take accountability for the successful delivery of various projects. Over time you will take accountability for the successful delivery of Projects and Services by ensuring that high quality planning, control and assurance practices are followed on all aspects of delivery.
As a Delivery Management Graduate you could work across a number of disciplines within our business; these include: Project, Programme and Portfolio Management, Planning, Monitoring and Control, and Service Delivery Management.
Project, Programme and Portfolio Management
You will play an active role in supporting senior Project Management professionals in relation to mobilising teams as well as managing suppliers, contractors and associates.
Planning, Monitoring and Control

Service Delivery Management
You will work closely with internal business operations teams and external clients in order to identify and manage service improvement activities.
Your career development
Your development is important to us. From day one, you’ll get your own personal career mentor, who will offer guidance and support throughout your career. Once you have joined Applied Intelligence, alongside all graduates, you will work through our Graduate Development Programme. The programme includes a set of five training modules which will help develop you towards a more specialised career path.
Throughout your time as a graduate, there will be plenty of opportunities for structured development, a range of projects to get involved in, and the opportunity to attend regular events. Due to the nature of our business, we don’t have rigid role rotations. However, you are likely to get involved in several different projects to ensure your skills are developed and enhanced.
We also offer graduates the possibility of taking on technical roles which are less client facing and with the opportunity to gain a real depth of experience in a particular product or technical discipline.
