Finance Leader Development Programme (FLDP)
Our Finance opportunities are for graduates and undergraduates with the potential to make a difference in senior finance roles.
Finance underpins everything we do – so it’s vital that we find and nurture our future finance leaders now. That’s why we created the Finance Leader Development Programme (FLDP).
The FLDP is our five-year graduate entry scheme, designed specifically for high-calibre individuals with the potential and determination to make a real difference in senior finance roles.
As a graduate on the FLDP, you can expect a role that offers significant responsibility from the very beginning. In the first three years, you'll complete three 12-month placements at a range of geographical locations across the UK, gaining extensive experience of financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and project accounting whilst completing your CIMA qualification. Following this you’ll commence a two year senior accountancy position, usually offering managerial experience, helping you to develop the skills you will require to move into a leadership role within our dynamic finance arena at the end of the programme. As you progress, you’ll soon understand why the FLDP is so enthusiastically championed by finance members and board directors alike.
Learning and Development
We’ll encourage and support you to reach your full potential and you’ll receive world-class training and support. The FLDP is our key to developing future finance leaders for BAE Systems. The programme will give you all the tools to succeed, you will undertake regular performance and development appraisals, and receive a senior mentor to provide you with support and guidance along the way.
In order to maximise the development of talent, we use the 70-20-10 Development Model; the most effective way to plan development is to focus 70% on experience, 20% on Exposure and 10% on Education.
We provide regular FLDP workshops, an annual conference, superb e-learning facilities and stretch assignment opportunities. You will have access to our Knowledge, Skills and Competency Gap Analysis tool, and you’ll receive a development 360 feedback report on an annual basis.
Once you’re into your fourth and fifth year of the programme and are CIMA qualified, you will receive an allocation of 20 days for training and development, some of which will be used to attend our well established People Management Toolkit course and Professional Development Centre, with the remaining days being tailored to you as an individual.
After five years on the FLDP, you will be a highly skilled member of the finance community. That’s a huge benefit in itself. But, as you go along, you’ll find out just how dedicated the company is to making sure you have every possible support and opportunity to learn more.
What You'll Need
To join us on the FLDP you must have a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor's degree in any subject and 112 UCAS points (new tariff) or equivalent (excluding General Studies).
For our Summer Interships/ Industrial Placements you must be on course to achieve a 2:1 Bachelor's degree (in a finance related subject) and 112 UCAS points or equivalent (exluding General Studies).
Although the academic requirements are important, you’ll also require equally strong personal qualities too such as the ability to be resilient, flexible, analytical yet practical and focused on taking responsibility for your own progression. Finance is a very hands-on profession that will see you working in demanding industrial environments, therefore it’s vital that you have the tact, confidence and tenacity to challenge accepted practices and robustly manage cost savings at ground level.
During the FLDP you must also be flexible and willing to move to new locations annually to maximize your development while on the five-year programme.
Finally, as a defence contractor there are security obligations placed on the Company meaning that all our applicants must be able to successfully achieve the relevant level of security clearance to join us on the FLDP.
