This Graduate Civil Engineer role sits within Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution Business Unit. Our teams work with regional, national and international electricity network owners and operators to provide technical engineering solutions.
With experience and expertise across the full spectrum of the electricity grid our teams have capability across overhead lines, cable tunnels, distribution networks and substations.
From scoping and feasibility, to design, construction and on-going maintenance, our in-house experts, flexible resources and industry-leading innovations support clients in the development of some of the world’s most ambitious power transmission and distribution projects.
What you'll be doing
About the programme:
Our Civil Engineering Graduates follow a training programme as part of our accredited ICE scheme – geared towards you achieving Chartered Engineer status. Depending on project requirements, you will be site, office based or both.
You’ll have visibility in key areas of our business – these could include design, operations, safety and commercial - and you’ll soon appreciate the important role of engineering innovation. Our aim is to develop your technical and leadership skills to help you reach your full potential whilst being exposed to practical engineering with a clear focus on site experience. As your programme progresses you will have increased responsibility in the supervision of specialist contractors, construction workforce and will take the lead for solving technical problems. Throughout you will ensure compliance with our Health and Safety agenda and aspire to a Site, Construction or Project Management career.
The Balfour Beatty Graduate scheme lasts for two years, you will follow a development programme that will equip you with the skills needed to become a business leader of the future. Throughout the two years, you'll be supported by your line manager and mentor and have the opportunity to attend graduate-based events, where you will network with your peers, develop interpersonal skills and share best practice. You will join a graduate cohort and be assigned Business Improvement and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects that can affect the way we work as a business.
Who we're looking for
What you’ll need:
- 2:1 BEng (Hons), MEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Experience within an engineering environment
- Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK
- What we’re looking for:
- A flexible approach to work and able to adapt to change (you may be required to relocate)
- A team-focus with the ability to communicate and build relationships with a wide variety of people at all levels
- A driven, self-motivated attitude, with the able to work on your own initiative and influence key decisions
