Engineering the Extraordinary

Bechtel is one of the world’s most respected engineering, procurement and construction companies. With operations in more than 140 countries and over 53,000 Bechtel people across the globe, we're tackling the kind of ground-breaking projects that will shape the world today and define the way we live our lives tomorrow.

No matter what the scale of the project or how remote, we pride ourselves in delivering on every conceivable engineering and construction challenge for our customers by keeping our promise of quality and innovation. What’s more, we’re doing it with integrity as our ambition is underpinned by our desire to build a better world – for our customers, our communities and our people.

Bechtel’s experience and expertise is expansive, with services across a wide range of industries, including

  • Infrastructure
  • Mining and Metals
  • Nuclear, Security & Environment
  • Oil, Gas & Chemicals

And behind some of our most high-profile projects are real graduates doing real jobs. Such projects include the ambitious 21 kilometre tunnel under London that’s part of the commuter railway, Crossrail. Or the construction of three world-scale plants in Australia to process the region’s vast coal seam gas reserves, and one further plant processing gas from offshore.

As an organisation, we harness the individual talents and unique contribution of everyone who works with us. But there are certain qualities we look for in all our graduates. Fresh-thinking, enthusiasm, tenacity and commitment. Because no matter where in the world they’re working or the challenges involved, we expect them to apply the same exacting standards to every project they undertake.

Your development

No matter which graduate programme you join, you’ll receive the same or similar training. Our dedicated Learning and Development team runs annual training sessions, which take place every September and start the moment you join.

As a new joiner, you’ll benefit from team skills training, which will explore team dynamics and their role in a project team environment. This will provide you with tangible skills you can use on any project.

The second-year training builds on what you learned in the first year, and looks at how different team roles work. You’ll also fill out various questionnaires to help you discover the best role for you within a project environment.

As you progress through the programme, your training does too. During your third year, we’ll give you leadership skills training, and you can test these our on your project as your responsibilities increase.

Other development opportunities you’ll enjoy include:

  • Technical training – organised by your function
  • Lunch and learns – organised by your function or our employee resource group, NextGen
  • Bechtel University (BU) – includes online, virtual and classroom-based learning
  • Career development Mentor - they’ll offer general support and ensure you’re on track to achieve Chartered status and help guide you in your early career at Bechtel.
