Training Contract 2019
Each year we ask up to 10 graduates to join our team as trainee solicitors and are currently recruiting for our 2019 intake.
Bristows is a medium-sized full service law firm that handles the kind of work you might normally associate with only the very largest firms. We have built up a client list that includes leading businesses from a variety of innovative sectors (including life sciences and TMT), whether global corporate, growing start-ups, charities or financial institutions.
Bristows might be known as one of the foremost intellectual property firms in the UK, but this only tells part of the story. Our lawyers are also recognised as leading authorities in a wide variety of other legal disciplines and as a firm we offer a true breadth of expertise. These are our core practice areas:
- intellectual property
- information technology
- commercial disputes
- real estate
- EU & competition
- media & marketing
As part of a select and high calibre intake, trainees work alongside our partners dealing directly with clients right from the start. There's plenty of responsibility but this is matched by an extremely supportive and friendly culture. During the two year training contract, trainees undertake a mixture of 3 and 6 month seats within our core departments and also have the opportunity to go on secondment to our key clients. We also guarantee trainees a seat in our IP Litigation department.
The minimum requirement for training contract applications is for a 2:1 degree in any discipline, but given the rigours of an IP practice, outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements are the norm, rather than an exception.
Many of our solicitors come from backgrounds where they’ve earned degrees in science, technology and other technical disciplines. However the firm welcome applications from all disciplines and universities, with the current trainees having degrees ranging from History and Politics, to Physics and Biochemistry.
Whatever a candidate's background, the firm assess each application on individual merit and intellectual and commercial acumen, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and enthusiasm for hard work, and analytical and creative thinking; team spirit and a passion for challenges and success are prized qualities.
We conduct two rounds of interviews each year, one in February and one in August. To be considered for the February round you must be in your final year of undergraduate study or a graduate and apply by 31st January. For the August round second year law undergraduates, all final year undergraduates and graduates are welcome to apply. The deadline is 31st July 2017.
