Interview Questions

"I was asked about my CV and why I had done the things I'd chosen to do. I was asked what I like to do in London and how my friends would describe me. There was one commercial/IP-related question relating to the different options available for a researcher who had identified the next block-buster drug but had used up all of his university funding."

"Why I wanted to do law, why I wanted to work at the firm, what I would do if I won the lottery, what I liked to do in my spare time. There were also some technical questions about IP protection and the market generally."

"A surprising amount about my school – what I thought of it, its teachers, opportunities etc. I was asked about a political issue of the time: the Leverson inquiries and what I thought about it. Problem solving eg (x) situation, (y) happens: what do you do?"
Second year trainee, London
"Why law? Why Bristows? Why I chose my undergraduate degree and what hobbies I had. They also asked situational judgment questions about situations you may find yourself in as a lawyer to find out how you would react. These aren't trick questions; just answer them sensibly thinking about any ethical issues that may arise and how you want to come across to a client or colleague."
"The interviewers tried getting to know me and to understanding my academic and extracurricular choices. They were interested in seeing how I would answer certain case scenarios and tested my commercial awareness."

"Who would you invite to a dinner party? Competency-based questions."
