"We have a great external consultant who comes in to deliver training."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"I have been really satisfied with the firm's internal training programme. A key training session for me was my presentation skills, which really added value to my role."
First year trainee, Manchester
"I think there could be more formal, classroom training to help us be better technical lawyers. The on-the-job training is good though."
Second year trainee, London
"We complete four seats and rotate every six months on the training contract. During this time, we carry out chargeable and non-chargeable work (such as research and business development) but there is an understanding among supervisors that trainees are there to develop and learn so the focus is on this. As trainees, we have attended training delivered by an external trainer such as presentation skills and how to deliver formal advice, which has been tailored to our level and will be helpful in the future. Introductory training sessions are provided in each seat with open discussions and case studies."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"The firm puts on some good training days that are mostly relevant to the job. I have improved my legal skills in my drafting and report writing. I have also gained non-legal skills in communication, including presentation skills."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"We regularly attend training sessions and these are typically with an external speaker at one of our offices. The quality of the training is high and the sessions develop skills that are fundamental to a successful solicitor (drafting, presentation, negotiating etc)."

"We have good networking events but I think there could be more formal training."
Second year trainee, Nottingham
"There's a wide variety of training programmes available, both externally and in-house, and feedback is always considered. Some departments also run separate training sessions for trainees and new qualifiers."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"I have not had a lot of specific formal trainee training sessions and much of the training I have had has been informal supervision from my supervisor. However, we have got some more of this in the diary so they are looking to address it."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"The training has definitely improved in the last year but I think there could be more legal training in specific areas. As trainees, we have had quite a bit of soft skills training."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"Before attending the office we completed the finance and advocacy modules of the professional skills course. Both internal and external training programmes are organised to build both legal and non-legal skills."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"There is a trainee development programme that covers certain core skills to complement the necessary skills you will have learned from the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Training modules have included drafting, presenting yourself and negotiation."
Second year trainee, London
"What I have experienced so far has proven helpful."
First year trainee, London
"A variety of training is provided from both partners and external training providers."
First year trainee, Nottingham
