I joined Carter Jonas in September 2015 and have remained a keen member of the Oxford Commercial Valuation team. The most enjoyable part of my day-to-day activities comes with the variation of instructions I’m involved with. Alongside the usually encountered property types, I have also been involved with the valuations of a gas tower, pubs and a rainforest to name just a few. In order to remain efficient, I am consistently provided with training opportunities to ensure I am competent in my role whilst maintaining sustainable growth to my career development.

My career development is always tested as I am provided with more responsibility and an increasing level of leadership that comes within a mentoring role for the new intake of graduates. Having this consistent flow of graduates not only provides personal development opportunities but increases social diversity within the team.

Overall, my average working day looks to expand on my limitations in a testing but enjoyable manner. Below is an example of a day in the life of a graduate at Carter Jonas:

Morning
8.40am arrived at the office and set up my laptop for the day. We hot desk at Carter Jonas which is a great way to enable mobile working and enable some variety in the office.
8:50am have breakfast and catch-up with colleagues
9:00am monthly ‘Stand Up’ to bring all departments within the office together to share current jobs and an overall update on what’s occurring across the business.
9:30am respond to emails and organise myself for the day.
10:00am undertake research and start report for a new valuation instruction

Afternoon
1:00pm head out for lunch with colleagues
2:30pm attend a property inspection
4:30pm write up findings from inspection and input into the valuation report
5:45pm pack up and head to the pub for an after work drink with colleagues.
