Information Systems (IS) Summer Placement

Our 10-week summer placement programme is designed to increase employability in students whilst providing a valuable resource to the business. We’re looking for self-directed learners and self-motivated individuals who show potential to grow, learn and develop on our programme. You should aim to demonstrate a can-do, proactive attitude and a genuine interest and desire to learn more about our business and industry.  In return, we offer projects with a high level of responsibility and the opportunity to enhance and develop the fundamental skills required for working life, with a support network that’s second to none. We want you to stand out in the workplace and helping you establish your strengths and fulfil your potential is what our Summer Placement is all about. We also encourage you to get involved with community and charity activities. One of these is the Summer Placement Charity Challenge, which raises money for our chosen charities. In the last three years students have raised around £50,000 through various team initiatives – all while enhancing vital skills and networking across the business. If you perform well, you could leave us with an offer to join the Graduate Programme the following year.

We have locations across the UK – plus we arrange and pay for accommodation close to your place of work with other students based in the area.

The IS Team deliver the full suite of systems and technologies for our business.  From cutting-edge development and coding, to looking at the latest mobile smart devices for our workers and engineers.  At the forefront of innovation for our business, they’re the ones using Big Data analysis to spot opportunities for improvement, and using cutting edge technology such as Hadoop to make our products and services even better for colleagues and customers alike.  Our experts here developed Hive, the Smart Meters that allow our customers to see energy use in real time and control their central heating from a smartphone. As well as revolutionising the technology we use in our call centres to deliver a faster, more effective service to every single British Gas residential customer.

You could work in one of the following areas: Service Management, Solution Development and Implementation, as well as Software Development, Infrastructure, Networking and Telephony, and Big Data. Wherever you work, you’ll find a team of experts dedicated to using technology to its full potential.  Enjoying real responsibility from day one, you’ll be right at the heart of it – using some of the latest tools available as well as collaborating with some of the best and brightest in the industry to work out a solution to a problem and using your own drive and initiative to get things done.

We’re looking for driven summer placement students who can demonstrate their passion for IT. Whether it’s your core subject or not, as long as you can show your enthusiasm and aptitude for all things IT, and can combine analytical thinking, organisation and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team, then we want to hear from you.
