CGI

CGI’s story began in 1976 with two 26 year old entrepreneurs, Serge Godin and Andre Imbeau. The two started the company in the basement of Serge’s home with one client, one phone and a lot of ambition. Today, there are over 70,000 of us working across the globe delivering the IT services that matter.

Whilst you may not have heard of CGI, you will have heard of our projects!

  • We have supported over 200 satellite missions into space
  • We defend against 43 million cyber attack incidents each day on military and intelligence networks and infrastructure
  • We work with 23 of the top 25 banks in both North America and Europe
  • We the data services provider for the roll-out of 53 million smart gas and electricity meters in the UK
  • We designed, built and operate the Police National Database used by all UK police forces and containing over 3.2 Billion records.

At CGI we want “to create an environment in which we enjoy working together and, as owners contribute to building a company that we can be proud of.” It really is our members that will make a difference and help us to be a world class information technology and business process services leader.

Our opportunities

Our students and graduates play a big part in the solutions that we deliver to our clients and have worked on some of the company’s biggest projects. If you join us as a Technical graduate or as an industrial placement student you can expect to work on different projects in roles such as programming, testing and developing. Join us as a Business graduate or placement student and you will work either as a junior service delivery manager or as a business analyst.

CGI recruit graduates and placement students into our major business units; Banking, Cyber Security, Defence, Energy and Utilities, National Security, Public Sector and Space. Our business units are designed around industries and clients. To find out more about each of the business units please have a look on our website.

We recruit students and graduates into various base locations across the UK with some of our main hubs (role dependent) being; Birmingham, Bridgend, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Manchester and Reading. Occasionally we may have roles based in London. Due to the nature of our business, you work on ‘projects’. This means you’re never doing the same thing and you can have different roles across various projects, so there is no ‘typical day’. It also may mean you are working on client site or at any other CGI office aside from your base location. It really does vary at CGI and you should therefore be prepared for some travel in your role. As part of the selection process, you will be asked to state your business unit and location preferences so we would encourage you to do your research about where you would like to go. Please note that different business units operate from different locations.

What’s in it for you?

If you have a real interest and passion for technology, we can offer you amongst many other benefits:

A world of opportunity. We're a global company, so you'll benefit from the wide range of resources and experiences a company our size can offer as well as the local support you will receive from the student community
A unique culture that gives you the freedom to innovate, to make decisions, to achieve your full potential and to chart your own career. We also believe your success is directly linked to the success of CGI – so much so that through our Share Purchase Plan you become an “owner” of CGI through purchasing CGI shares on the open market, with the added benefit of CGI matching your contribution up to 3% of base salary.
Flexible training and development that suits you as an individual

CGI was founded in 1976 in Québec City by Serge Godin and André Imbeau. At the time, “CGI” stood for “Conseillers en gestion et informatique,” which translates to “Consultants in management and information technology.” As we grew into a global company, we became known as simply CGI.

Today, there are 65,000 of us working across the globe. Together, CGI's professionals have built one of the leading IT and business process services companies in the world with a long track record of service excellence, innovative services and solutions, and sustainable profitable growth.

CGI recruits students graduates into all our major business units; Space, Defence or National Security, Public Sector, Infrastructure Services, and Energy, Utilities and Telecoms (EUT). We also occasionally take students graduates in to Cyber Security and also into corporate functions.

We also recruit students and graduates into various base locations across the UK with some of our main hubs (role dependent) being; Birmingham, Bridgend, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Manchester and Reading. Occasionally we may have roles based in London. As CGI is a consultancy, excitingly your projects could be based from a client site or at other CGI offices asides from your base location. Or sometimes you may work every day from your base location. You should therefore be prepared for some travel in your role. As part of the selection process, you will be asked to state your business unit and location preferences so we would encourage you to do your research about where you would like to go. Please note that different business units operate from different locations.

Join CGI and choose to experience the commitment that we have to our clients and members alike. #itsyourfuture
