We recruit the brightest and best graduates into the Civil Service and give them the skills, knowledge and experience they need to become effective and inspiring leaders at the heart of the political process.
The Government Operational Research Service (GORS) supports policy-making, strategy and operations in many different departments and agencies. GORS analysts advise the government on how to make the best possible use of public money. This often involves building mathematical models to predict system behaviour.
The challenges faced by the government are complex and often costly. You’ll help identify the underlying and linked issues, modelling the likely impact of changes and interventions. You’ll use your skills in modelling and analysis to work with policy makers, finding ways to improve the delivery of public services and to formulate government policy.
To do this you’ll use a range of techniques from facilitation to hard numerical analysis. You’ll generate and organise ideas, analyse data, understand and improve systems, and forecast likely outcomes. Throughout, you can expect to work on projects that challenge your creativity as well as your intellect. You’ll also be encouraged to move both within your department and between departments.
If you successfully complete the scheme and are promoted, you could earn c. £45k-£55k. Other benefits include the Civil Service pension scheme, professional qualifications, flexible working, season ticket loans, sports and social activities, childcare assistance and more.
