Houses of Parliament
We recruit the brightest and best graduates into the Civil Service and give them the skills, knowledge and experience they need to become effective and inspiring leaders at the heart of the political process.
As a Fast Streamer on the Houses of Parliament programme, you'll witness at first hand the democratic processes and political events that shape the nation. You’ll be employed by the House of Commons and serve Parliament, not the government of the day.
Initially you’ll work for a select committee, or in an office which supports the House of Commons Chamber. You could be involved in managing committee inquiries and helping manage its workload. Throughout, you'll be helping MPs in their duties.
A year in another team will broaden your understanding. For example, Fast Streamers have worked with our Restoration and Renewal team on a substantial project relating to the building itself. Beyond this, a placement in other House business areas will help you develop new skills.
While most of the learning is on the job, after induction week you can look forward to weekly seminars, in-house and external training relevant to your job or development.
Promotion will see you earn £49,500 in 3 to 4 years, while other benefits include generous leave (usually only when Parliament isn’t sitting), choice of pensions, professional qualifications, season ticket loan, in-house gym, childcare vouchers and more.
