Science and Engineering
We recruit the brightest and best graduates into the Civil Service and give them the skills, knowledge and experience they need to become effective and inspiring leaders at the heart of the political process.
Society faces many challenges where science can provide solutions. You'll be responsible for making sure that the best science and engineering advice is brought to bear effectively on government policy and decision-making.
As one of our Science and Engineering fast streamers, you could work on issues as diverse as climate change, bioscience policy, defence technology, transport innovation and food production.
You'll take on a range of roles across the Civil Service, some with a substantial policy element, others more technical in nature. This will give you access to a wide range of exciting potential career pathways, quite different from those found in academia and industry. You'll apply your specialist skills and knowledge to the development and application of policies, acting as an expert customer, developing an evidence base and undertaking systematic analysis.
There are a number of development opportunities specifically for the Science and Engineering Fast Stream. These will give you additional technical skills and broaden your understanding of science and engineering in the Civil Service.
If you successfully complete the scheme and are promoted, you could earn c. £45k-£55k. Other benefits include the Civil Service pension scheme, professional qualifications, flexible working, season ticket loans, sports and social activities, childcare assistance and more.
