The Middle East Graduate Programme – Training Contract 2021
As part of our Middle East Graduate Programme places are now available for our two year training contract starting in 2021 (regulated by the UK's Solicitors Regulation Authority and leading to qualification in England and Wales).
The Training Contract – 2021
When you start your career in law at Clifford Chance you become part of one of the world's largest and most successful law firms. Undertake your training contract in the Middle East and you'll be sharing in an ambition that has fuelled our growth and established our credentials as legal pioneers across the region.
During your two year training you'll undertake four six month 'seats' across different practice areas, for two of which you'll be based in our London office, the firm's global headquarters, and the other two of which you'll be based in Dubai, the Middle East's key regional office and the region's financial hub. Through this dual approach, you will benefit from the Firm's world class learning and development programme, and gather prime and truly international legal experience working alongside leading sector professionals from across two continents, with which to launch your career as an England & Wales qualified lawyer in the Middle East. In tandem, you'll have the enviable opportunity of living and working in two of the world's most cosmopolitan cities and financial centres, enjoying their rich and diverse cultures first hand.
As a trainee in Dubai, you become a valued team member from day one. You will be close to the action with an active role in client relationships and business development early on. Moreover, you will enjoy the challenge of working on a wide variety of international, market leading and landmark transactions, often collaborating with colleagues from other offices and practice areas.
Your experience in London will provide you with a sense of the phenomenal scale of our business and give you the opportunity to connect and collaborate with over a hundred of your peers alongside whom you will navigate your career.
In all of your seats, you'll enjoy activities that develop and enhance your legal and business skills, as well as your commercial awareness. You could be drafting and proofing documents, conducting due diligence on a client's acquisition target, attending client meetings, preparing documents for a court hearing, researching titles and leases on a real estate portfolio or creating a data room ahead of a major transaction. You may even run some smaller transactions for our clients.
Underpinning this exposure to the best work available, you will receive learning and development support from the Clifford Chance Academy, arguably the legal sector's leading in-house learning and development facility. Our legal training professionals deliver an array of interactive workshops and knowledge initiatives to ensure you are constantly developing both your technical legal and commercial skills, not just during your training but throughout your career. You will also have access to the Firm's substantial KnowHow database and online training suite 24/7, at work, at home or on the move, so that you know that you can always access the information you need. Even before you come on board, the Firm will support your learning through the GDL (if applicable) and CC's accelerated and bespoke LPC, devised in collaboration with one the UK's foremost professional education providers.
Throughout your training contract, you will be closely supported, both informally and through formal mentoring, with advice and guidance from the graduate development team and a dedicated supervisor on each seat.
What we're looking for
We're looking for graduates who are genuinely interested in a career in law and committed to a career in the Middle East upon qualification. Whilst regional focus is important to us and cultural understanding and Arabic language skills can be useful, our business is global and thus diversity in experience and background is welcome. Moreover, it is your potential to become a lawyer that is key, rather than your knowledge and understanding of the law itself or your field of study thus far.
In order to apply for our Middle East Training Contract, you should have a strong academic record. To us that means having 340 UCAS points at A Level (or equivalent) and obtaining or being on target for a 2:1 (or equivalent) degree result or higher. The subject of your degree however is not important.
We welcome applications from students currently undertaking law or non-law subjects at university (at any stage in their studies) and those who have recently graduated.
Please note you cannot apply for both a Middle East and a London training contract in the same academic year.
The Application Process
The first stage of our assessment process is to complete the online application form attached – please click on 'apply now'.

Should you be successful at this stage, you will be invited to attend one of our Assessment Days, which are held in London according to your location at the time.
