Interview Process

2014

"The process consisted of an application form with CV/cover letter and questions; psychometric testing.; and an assessment day with an interview."
First year trainee, Manchester
"I went through an assessment day (HR interview, verbal reasoning test, letter of advice), a vacation scheme (work in a department, client pitch exercise, negotiation exercise), and a partner interview (two partners). The process appears far more comprehensive now than when I went through it with more emphasis put on vacation scheme."
First year trainee, London
"I was hired through my firms vacation scheme. This involved an online assessment form, two face-to-face interviews, two written assessments and a two week trial in the firm."
First year trainee, London
"The assessment day was quite long and challenging, but ultimately provides you with a very fair opportunity to sell yourself."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"I completed a long form application form for a vacation scheme and was invited for an interview at my university campus. The interview went well and I was invited on a two week vacation scheme with the firm in July. The first week comprised of an internship in a department of the firm under the supervision of a partner and an associate, who provided feedback on us to HR. The second week comprised of a series of written, oral and presentational assessments, culminating in an interview at the end of the week."
Second year trainee, London
"The interview process and assessments were challenging, but not overly onerous, especially when one considers the investment that the firm would make if a candidate were successful."

2013

"I was asked general questions about how I coped with the work given to me on the vacation scheme and my interests outside work."
First year trainee, London
"Increasingly difficult as the firm grows and the application numbers increase. I attended a vacation scheme at the firm and was put through a written exercise, a group presentation, a drafting exercise and a partner interview. You will be assessed even when you are not in the actual assessments! Everyone you encounter during a vacation scheme is asked for feedback on you, even if you only had a chat about what you got up to at the weekend. On the plus, this means generally the quality of trainee here is very good."
First year trainee, London
"Online application, assessment day and interview. Much of the process is designed to ensure that you have done your research into the firm and that you are clear on why you want to work there. Essential to demonstrate that you can add value."
First year trainee, Manchester / Abu Dhabi
"We had to do an assessment centre comprised of two drafting exercises, a faux client pitch, and an interview with two partners. The questions asked in the interviews varied for each applicant."
First year trainee, London
"The interview process was 'easy' - the partners were nice and the questions quite casual - the partners spent a lot of the time talking amongst themselves, and asking me generally about my CV and why I chose the firm. I was only asked one 'test-type' question about my opinion on something which was in the news at the time. Getting there is the difficult part however. The application form was the worst I had to fill out of all firms I applied to, and the testing process (we had verbal reasoning, timed written exercise and HR interview) was difficult."
