CMS is a global, full service law firm with 60 plus offices in over 30 countries worldwide. We are the second most global law firm and the largest in Europe, headquartered in the City of London in the UK with training locations also in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol. Opportunities abound for top quality training, global secondments and to work with sector specialists so that your career can thrive in our Global Elite Law firm.
With CMS your two-year training contact will start with an induction programme in conjunction with IMD, the leading European business school based in Switzerland. CMS and IMD have been working closely to develop our Partners and lawyers for many years and we are excited to develop a global CMS induction for our 2018 trainees.
After your induction you’ll be based in London, Bristol, Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Glasgow. During that time, you’ll take on four seats across our practice areas - from Intellectual Property to EU Competition - and you’ll find loads of responsibility within high-profile projects. You’ll also take on a guaranteed secondment, which might see you work with one of our top UK clients, or in our international offices, from Rio de Janeiro to Beijing.
Before each seat rotation, we’ll discuss your preferences with you, and do our best to accommodate them. As well as a seat in one of our banking or corporate groups, you’ll experience a number of other practice areas, including the area of your secondment. The breadth of experience you gain will help you decide where you want to specialise in the future.
As you progress through the firm, you’ll find dedicated support and advice from your personal supervisor. They’ll be there at every step, to take an active interest in your development, and to help you plan your career at CMS.
Our trainees are close, and supportive of each other’s development. So, as you train, you’ll also be in close contact with TREPS – a committee comprised of trainees from across our practice areas and locations – who’ll be there for you, to help with any suggestions, problems or queries you might have along the way.
To succeed with us you’ll be emotionally savvy and self-assured, a clear and engaging communicator, will know how to overcome obstacles and achieve success and will be a true team player. You should also have a sharp mind, strong analytical skills and be someone who builds rapport quickly.
We recognise that great lawyers can come from any background, so we welcome applications from both Law and non-Law students and graduates (due to the Law Society of Scotland requirements we only take Law students and graduates in our Scottish offices).
