We offer four trainee positions in one intake per year. These are usually offered to candidates who have attended and performed well on one of our summer programmes. Our smaller teams lead to high levels of responsibility and client contact. You will be able to make a substantial contribution to the matters you work on. Trainees rotate every six months through some of the firm's contentious and non-contentious specialisms. Trainees give preferences for their seat moves and have input into the process.
Supplementing hands-on learning and development will be a trainee training programme. Regular sessions are designed to increase your practice-based technical knowledge and skills, as well as your understanding of Firm finances, business development and commercial considerations.
Working alongside and learning from some of the best lawyers in their fields will give you a fantastic start to your professional life. A multi-level support network of partners, mentors and a buddy system ensures you have a targeted level of guidance.
Academic excellence, great analytical skills and a rigorous approach are essential for the complexity of the work Cooley does. You will need plenty of energy, drive and determination, as well as great business awareness. You should have impressive communication and interpersonal skills developed from a variety of situations. Understanding teamwork, evidence of leadership and seeking responsibilities are vital. Interesting achievements and making the most of non-academic and work experience (not necessarily all legal) opportunities will help applicants stand-out.
