Informal Training & Mentoring

"The firm has stellar lawyers who in my experience make great teachers and mentors. Feedback is gleaned on a day-to-day basis from seeing how your work has been amended, and if you do a good job, you will often be told. Lawyers are very polite, and generally will always say thank you or apologise if you have to stay late - or even buy you chocolate! There are mid- and end-of-seat reviews where you have a proper chance to reflect with your supervisor."

"Generally people will tell you when you've done a good job. There is a buddy/mentor system in place which requires both you and your buddy to be proactive. Certain partners/associates are very good at thanking you for assistance, which makes a big difference."

"Solicitors and partners are very accessible, and I have had some incredible supervisors and mentors from senior associates and partners I have worked with."

"All lawyers are very accessible, and are usually good at giving feedback (even if a few need chasing up on it sometimes)."

"I have had good performance feedback from most lawyers (and can certainly be solicited if necessary). Everyone is very accessible."

"Both of my supervisors have been excellent; approachable, incredibly good at what they do, and good at giving constructive feedback, and have inspired me to take interest in their practice areas. The mid-seat review process allows both trainee and supervisor to highlight areas for improvement/areas the trainee would like to explore further."

"Accessibility of partners varies according to each individual. Some senior lawyers and partners are potentially good mentors but the onus is on the trainee to build the relationship, no particular initiative by the firm to ensure trainees get partner interaction."

"In the round, senior lawyers here do make good mentors. Some are (unsurprisingly) far better at encouragement and mentoring than others, but if you ask, help will be given."
