"The supervision is excellent. There's a great balance between genuine support and just letting you have a go yourself."
First year trainee, City of London
"The associates and partners are generally very accessible and the support system for trainees is very good. Trainees have an informal mid-seat review and then a more formal end-of-seat appraisal."
Second year trainee, London
"Associates and partners are very willing to give constructive feedback on individual pieces of work at your mid-seat review and appraisal. They will also take the time to thank you for your work and highlight to supervising partners/department heads where you've performed well. I have also found partners are very willing to give further context and background to your work and answer questions."
First year trainee, London
"People are generally really approachable and all of my supervisors have taken training and mentoring seriously. I have been really satisfied with the quality of supervision I have received during my training contract."
First year trainee, London
"On the whole, associates have been extremely approachable and willing to discuss their experiences and their thoughts on Dechert, and to teach me about different legal concepts. I would be encouraged to ask for feedback if I hadn't received it when expected."

"Most partners are accessible. We have panel partners allocated to each trainee who oversee appraisals and who you can seek advice from about other work-related matters. It is helpful to have a partner's perspective and support at times. You get praise if you do a good job and you are not ridiculed if you mess up. Most solicitors appreciate that trainees are learning and things happen."
Second year trainee, London
"Some senior associates and partners are willing to teach, others are not so accessible. The firm has a good 'panel partner' scheme where trainees are assigned a partner as a mentor who attends appraisal meetings throughout their two years."
Second year trainee, London
"My current supervisor, a senior associate, is very approachable and is a wonderful mentor. She takes the time to explain the transaction and the point of the task she is giving me. The appraisal and mid-seat review systems mean performance feedback is given."
First year trainee, London
"People are pretty accessible."
Second year trainee, London
"It depends on the supervisor but these are well chosen."
First year trainee, Dechert LLP
