Student Electronics Engineer

Job Description

  • Development of hardware/software solutions using micro controllers including but not limited to Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Netduino using Fritz, breadboards and vero board and PCB Design.
  • Windows software development (WinForms/WPF), primarily in Visual Studio using C# but may include Python, Perl, VBA, PHP, XML, HTML, XAML and Java.
  • Development and execution of unit and validation tests for above.
  • Preparation of documentation and help files for above.
  • Modelling using Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Diagnosis of issues using electronic test benches, oscilloscopes etc.
  • Utilize configuration management and work management tools (Rational Clearcase/Clearquest)
  • Implement industry standard ASAM API’s (XiL, XCP, CCP etc)


Essential Skills

  • Appreciation of Hardware/Software development.
  • Motivated to use initiative in the investigation of solutions.
  • Willingness to work practically as well as theoretically.
  • Ability to apply the skills and knowledge learnt on course to date.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Will need to be able to communicate via reports, emails and presentations.

Desirable Skills

A flexible and willing attitude is essential because students will regularly find themselves encountering new situations, whilst often needing to undertake routine work.

Hours of work, 37 per week

8am – 4:30pm Mon to Thurs, ½ hour lunch break. 8am – 1pm Friday, no lunch break.


In addition to statutory holidays, students receive 25 days paid holiday in a full 12 month calendar period, pro-rata for shorter periods.

Annual Salary 

Up to £20,000
