Training Contract

A training contract in our City office in London will place you at the centre of one of the world’s leading legal practices. Our London training contract consists of six-month seats in four of our nine practice areas.

Along with a seat in our Banking and Finance practice and a contentious seat (or an external litigation course), you may also have the opportunity to work in one of our global offices or to work directly with one of our clients within their team and office.

Milton Keynes and Watford

Our rotational Milton Keynes and Watford training contract will see you move between the two offices, with the opportunity to experience our City-level out-of-town legal service and the chance to work with our numerous household-name clients.

Our legal departments include Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Financial Litigation, Real Estate, Property Litigation, Construction and Employment, and you’ll spend six-month seats in four of them.

The Milton Keynes and Watford training contract offers the opportunity to experience four completely varied seats, with a distinct focus on contentious experience.

Middle East

We’re the largest foreign legal practice in the region. We’d like to hear from nationals of GCC countries interested in training in both our London and our Middle East offices. After qualifying, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for a position in one of our Middle East offices.

Training Programme

As a Dentons trainee, you will undertake four six-month seats, including a contentious seat or attending an external litigation course. Your experience will include banking (if in London) and financial litigation, construction or real estate (if in Milton Keynes and Watford). Middle East trainees will spend two seats in the UK and two in the Middle East.

All our offices have an excellent reputation and training programme, who focus on high quality work for high quality clients. Our teams allow trainees to quickly become an integral part of the business and to be well supervised and supported during the training contract. You may also have the opportunity to work in one of our international offices or with one of our clients.

Your legal training begins with a thorough induction and Professional Skills Course – but that's where the hand holding ends. As part of Dentons you'll be given all the responsibility you can handle, including running parts of cases and meeting with clients.

Salary and benefits

Train with us and we'll gladly recognise your value. You'll earn a competitive salary of £40,000 for first-year London trainees, rising to £44,000 in the second year and £65,000 upon qualification. In Milton Keynes & Watford first-year trainees earn £28,500, rising to £30,000 in the second year and £44,000 upon qualification.

We'll also pay your GDL/LPC law school fees during actual years of study, as well as study maintenance grants of £5,000 per year of study (£6,000 in London) during actual years of study. Unfortunately we are unable to reimburse fees for those who have already completed the GDL/LPC.

On top of that during your training contract you'll enjoy numerous benefits - and you'll get to choose the ones that best fit your lifestyle, from the option to buy or sell holiday, private health cover, income protection insurance, subsidised gym membership, pension and many others.

Dentons is committed to equality and diversity in all our employment practices. We work to provide an environment which engenders our employees to have respect for the individual, understanding of differences and the benefits diversity brings to the firm. In the UK, we do this through our recruitment processes, induction and training and through our Diversity Group, which has several employees and Partners as members. The Group ensures that our employees are well represented in decisions made on diversity issues and encourages new initiatives to raise awareness of differing backgrounds.

Pro Bono and Social Activities

Success isn’t just about personal gain. It also brings opportunities to help others in the community, adding a rewarding new dimension to your career.

So once your legal skills have developed, you can join our pro bono projects. These include the PopLaw Clinic, the Campaign for Female Education (Camfed), the Citizens Advice Bureau, the International HIV/ AIDS Alliance and UNICEF.

Join your non-legal colleagues and volunteer your time to valuable community projects, including Mosaic, City Gateway, the Inner City Reading Scheme and the Whitechapel Mission.

You can also get involved in our charity work through the Social Committee, the Dentons Charitable Trust and the Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme.

And, when you’re ready to relax, there are plenty of social activities to enjoy: our Social Committee organises everything from yoga to quiz nights, from sailing to hockey – because well-rounded people with passions outside of the office are the ones who our clients want to work with.
