Platform Systems Graduate

Are you interested in delivering highly rewarding research to help protect the UK and our armed forces from real world threats?

Our Platform Systems Division of Dstl supports the Ministry of Defence and other government departments in a broad range of ground breaking technical research areas.

We respond to current and future demands ensuring that the UK retains a battle-winning advantage.

Our work is about delivering, sustaining and improving our military capability for the UK in key areas:

  • Survivability - we safeguard our armoured vehicles, warships and aircraft against the harshest combat environments
  • Weapons - where our research delivers the most advanced weapon capabilities for our armed services
  • Systems - we ensure that all the latest advanced equipment operates together seamlessly on our warships, military vehicles, and aircraft

You'll begin on our structured 2 year development scheme. You'll benefit from broad placements across our Division to let you experience the breadth of opportunities in the organisation, and an external placement either within another Dstl Division or the wider defence community.

This will provide you with a thorough grounding in working across defence, with training also provided to enhance your core personal skills and experience to enable you to flourish.

After the scheme you will then join a specific area within our Division where you will continue to develop your specialist knowledge and skills.

You will work on a wide variety of projects - no one day is the same. You will take vital capabilities and push them to their limits, using creativity and innovation to solve real-world problems for real-world customers.

We work at the forefront of defence research and innovation, which is a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. Quite simply, this is work that you cannot do anywhere else.

Your role

You will contribute to a diverse team of specialists to deliver critical scientific, analytical and engineering solutions. This could be developing the latest novel and bespoke tools, models and techniques, working on trials outside of the office or in laboratory testing, and be anything from working with the latest military equipment and weapon systems to things we simply can’t tell you about until you join.

Your work will be delivered in a variety of methods including:

  • Technical reports
  • Presenting vital scientific data to customers across the defence community

You will develop the skills needed to explain your complex technical research to diverse audiences and ensure their understanding. You will also develop networks with external partners, always ensuring we continue to deliver the technical quality expected of Dstl and maximising the value of our research.
