Minuses

2016

"The lack of transparency. This lack of transparency seems to be reflected throughout the firm and creeps into the seat selection process, which many trainees consider very opaque. Trainees can be made to feel like they are taken for granted on occasions and should be grateful for what they have. While a top-tier firm, I think it still has many characteristics left over from when it was a mid-tier firm."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"Frequent changes to IT systems. However, this is understandable given how quickly the firm has expanded in recent times."

Second year trainee, Birmingham
"The lack of variety of training contract seats in certain locations. To some extent, this is addressed in publishing a national seats preference list so trainees have the option of moving location to undertake a seat they would prefer to one in their home office."

"The 'incomplete time-sheet spreadsheet' which is sent around the firm every week listing those people who have failed to post 7.5 hours per day (not on average, but per day) in the previous week. Not fun if you're found to be mentioned on it!"
Second year trainee, Manchester
"Quite limited seat choices in London office. However, the seat offering is due to increase rapidly due to recent mergers."
First year trainee, London
"Rapid growth can be disconcerting at times. Mixed quality of work in training contract seats."
