"The culture is open and inclusive. Hierarchy is not an issue. I find that even the most senior staff have a great deal of time and respect for all of their colleagues, regardless of their level of seniority, and make a concerted effort to be approachable. Teamwork is a huge part of the firm's culture. Social opportunities are varied, depending on workloads, but there are plenty of opportunities to socialise."

"The open floor plan really helps break down barriers. Everyone is generally very approachable and willing to assist you however they can. Fellow trainees tend to gather for drinks most Thursdays and Fridays and you are invited to lunches with your team."
First year trainee, London
"No need to be here late if you've done your work. Very supportive supervisors in all my seats. Lots of contact time with partners who are willing to listen to trainees' ideas. Feedback is given for most tasks."
First year trainee, London
"I really enjoy the culture at the firm: work hard and play hard. It is flexible, supportive and modern."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"Eversheds has a very open plan office that encourages communication on a team, practice group and office wide basis. You will often find partners sitting alongside associates, trainees and legal assistants. As such, while there is a hierarchy, the culture within the office is very relaxed, open and informal, and everyone is very approachable. We enjoy a strong teamwork ethos and everyone chips in to get the job done. In fact, it took some time to adjust to the fact that senior colleagues will happily take work off your hands if they have capacity when you're swamped in the interests of ensuring that everyone has a sensible workload (as far as possible). There are constant emails about social events taking place, and even if there are no organised events, our central location in Cardiff means that we are no more than a couple of minutes' walk away from an impromptu social after working hours."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"Positive, progressive and open door. Encouraged to work directly with partners and senior fee earners. Hours can be long but the team are all involved."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"This differs between seats. With corporate and commercial I feel you have to put in face-time but in other departments you do not."
Second year trainee, Cambridge
"It is a very level firm. There is very rarely a feeling of intimidation. You are actively encouraged to engage with partners and everyone holds themselves accountable at all levels. An open plan office helps with this atmosphere and encourages a more human interaction between levels of seniority. It is very transparent and is more of a meritocracy than other firms I have experienced."
First year trainee, London
"The culture at Eversheds is one of the things that attracted me to the firm. There is a really friendly, almost family-like, culture among colleagues where all questions are taken seriously. The office is completely open plan and paralegals sit next to partners. This layout provides a really good atmosphere to learn as I am always able to work with much more senior members of the team. There is also a great emphasis on team bonding outside of working hours. All departments get together individually and as a group to let off steam after a hard week at work. We also have a great link between different practice groups and departments. We don't just socialise with only those around us."

"The floor I am on is open-plan with each pod containing a variety of different levels of solicitor. This means that it is easy to interact with everyone. There is a good atmosphere among the team and everyone works well together. There are regular drinks after work which helps develop teamwork outside of office hours."
First year trainee, Manchester
"The culture here is friendly and very welcoming, and there is a good social scene with lots of clubs and activities to get involved in if you wish."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"Everyone is friendly and supportive here. I think that the partners are always keen for the team to socialise and meet after work for drinks. Partners are approachable and make everyone feel like part of the team."
Second year trainee, Nottingham
"The culture is very good, the office is open-plan so the hierarchy is not apparent, and teamwork and cooperation happen on a daily basis. There is a constant stream of socialising and out of work socials."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"The open-plan setting leads to a relatively informal working environment, and the hierarchy isn't felt. Everyone is very approachable - including the partners. There is a good atmosphere and social life, with regular events being put on. The hours can be very long, but that doesn't go unrecognised."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"The firm, and more specifically the team I work with, is incredibly supportive. They are always happy to sit down with you to go through any work you are doing with them. They are also very inclusive and encouraging out of hours - we often attend events such as live sports together."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"I can see that the people are high quality and supportive here. The atmosphere is very open, and change is welcomed. There are many social opportunities, some formal, but most informal with team members/fellow trainees. Teamwork is crucial to everything we do."
Second year trainee, London
"There is a really good mix of legal focus and an otherwise relaxed atmosphere. It creates a balanced atmosphere, and really helps you work well when meeting pressurised deadlines."
First year trainee, Manchester
"The firm is very social, there is always something going on both in the office and out of hours. We have open plan offices which allow for a lot of interaction between colleagues of different levels."
First year trainee, Cambridge

"The office is very friendly and welcoming and we work together as one big team. There is no feeling of hierarchy at Eversheds and I feel that everyone is treated as an equal. The office is very sociable, with regular organised office events and informal last minute get togethers too."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"At the firm people take their work seriously and strive for excellence, but they also recognise the need to be happy in their working environment and encourage social interaction."
First year trainee, Leeds
"It is a very social firm, with a big office wide party once a year and team/department social events throughout the year. There are drinks trolleys and a bar on the last Friday of every month in the canteen."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"The firm has a good culture both in and out of the office. The open-plan layout means that everyone socialises with colleagues during the working day. There isn't a hierarchical culture - you wouldn't always know who was a partner and who was a secretary as everyone sits together."
First year trainee, Cambridge
"The office culture is 'open-door' in more than just the clichéd sense. There hasn't been a time when I've been unable to seek guidance from more senior members of the team. After a busy first week we've been on several lunches as a team and the office benefits from Friday drinks on the last Friday of the month."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"The firm has no obvious hierarchy, although the hours can be long. Teamwork is good and everyone is friendly with lots of social activities."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"There is a hierarchy but it doesn't make much difference, except in terms of the responsibilities affecting billing and fee negotiation with clients."
First year trainee, Cardiff
