Formal Training

8.5 / 10

(based on 27 ratings in 2016)

2016

"Courses are generally held centrally, so it gives you an opportunity to mix with trainees from other offices, which is so valuable. The training itself is good for setting you up for your first day and supporting you professionally as you progress."
First year trainee, Newcastle
"There is a comprehensive training structure delivered through a combination of e-learning, training days and on-the-job training. Besides the professional skills course, there are regular training sessions held on a team, practice group and sector-wide basis. Training is also provided for the development of soft skills, such as people management."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"Introductory training for trainees was very mixed. Some courses were excellent whereas I found others, including the writing course, too simplistic."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"Excellent. It's strongly encouraged to attend skills and knowledge training. Professional skills course training is very good. Plenty of opportunity to develop capabilities."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"The legal training is good. You get a good level of exposure in most of the seats. Some of the more transactional areas are a bit more repetitive so there is limited scope for training. In other seats they send you on a lot of development training to develop you as a lawyer and you can see it immediately benefit you when you return to the office. They are also good at training you with soft skills such as client interaction."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"Professional skills course is very front-ended at Eversheds. You are told to aim to complete all modules by the end of your first seat."
First year trainee, London
"There is always an opportunity to learn, through formal and informal training. This is not something that stops once you become a qualified solicitor, as training is provided to all levels of lawyers."
Second year trainee, Cardiff
"I haven't completed all of the professional skills course training yet, but I do feel like some of the modules I have done so far are very repetitive. However, internally there are great opportunities to train depending on sector interests and experience."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"Frequent webinars and option practice group specific training, good online resources. Networking skills, drafting, communication."
First year trainee, Leeds

2015

"The training contract is excellent and a suitable amount of time and effort is devoted to a first-rate legal education."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"Eversheds provides a formal Professional Skills Course week at the start of your training contract and then continues the training with additional compulsory courses throughout. Examples of courses include advocacy, negotiation and drafting. There are also further compulsory training sessions applicable to each seat you take."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"The Professional Skills Course is well run, although that on offer in London tends to get booked up quickly, so even though you are based in the City, it is more than likely that you may have to get the train to Leeds or Birmingham to attend some of the longer courses. Different departments offer different experiences. On one side of the coin, I am now able to review international bids for multi-million transport franchises, and on the other, I can now bundle documents in my sleep."
First year trainee, London
"In my experience training is very supportive and spread throughout the two years, but one week is taken at the start to go through the majority of Professional Skills Course modules, which doubles up as a social for all the trainees who stay at the Leeds office for a week in a hotel."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"The training is very comprehensive. You are encouraged and supported to learn new skills, ranging from learning a language to how to network to the best of your ability. Everything can be provided in-house so there is sense of uniformity across the offices."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"The in-house Professional Skills Course training is good, and it is an advantage to have it delivered by people in the firm rather than externally. I have developed my drafting skills, picked up more technical knowledge and had an incredible secondment where I learned the importance of client relationships."
Second year trainee, London
"The training provided here is good, and we have had Professional Skills Courses on advocacy, client care, negotiation and business and finance skills. We also have regular webinars and seminars on department specific topics."
First year trainee, Cambridge
"Bespoke training delivered by experts in their field accompanies developing skills on the job - especially non-legal skills, which you learn through working on real life situations."
Second year trainee, London
"Training wise, I think that Eversheds is brilliant: there are all sorts of courses, webinars and series of updates available at all levels."
First year trainee, Manchester

2014

"We had a PSC week with all of the UK first seat trainees, webinars and e-learning modules on a variety of subjects."
First year trainee, Manchester
"As a new trainee, I have already done a week of PSC in Leeds, booked onto a presentation course and a lexis training module. My team are approachable and are genuinely happy to answer questions."
First year trainee, Cambridge
"There is an extensive trainee training programme and specific training which is tailored to the department which you are in."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"The firm's team specific training programmes generally focus on legal knowledge. The PSC and associated skills courses are well run in which negotiation, advocacy and client care feature heavily."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"There are motivation, negotiation workshops and training on the legal aspects of the team."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"We have a range of e-learning/webinars, in office training and national training programmes. We learn legal technical skills such as negotiation, commercial skills such as finance management, and professional skills such as business development and networking."
Second year trainee, Newcastle
"Negotiating and client service training at the firm, in which the latter had excellent focus on the clients' needs and how to deliver great service."
First year trainee, Leeds
