7.9 / 10

(based on 27 ratings in 2016)

2016

"Very accessible, and even informal mentoring is encouraged. Feedback is forthcoming, and there is a formal scheme in place to recognise when you have gone above and beyond your day job."
First year trainee, Leeds
"All trainees are assigned mentors, who keep in regular touch. All solicitors and partners are happy to sit down and chat if you have any questions."
First year trainee, Newcastle
"The teams I've worked with have been helpful in their feedback and they encourage you to try things yourself and then evaluate, rather than just telling you the answer."
First year trainee, London
"Due to the open plan nature of the office and the fact that everyone is very focused on teamwork, all members of staff are very accessible and always keen to assist junior members. Of particular note is that senior colleagues take the opportunity not only to correct mistakes or provide guidance when required, but also to congratulate you on a job well done."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"Limited formal mentoring but excellent senior-level mentoring through development of professional relationships."
First year trainee, London
"All solicitors and partners are accessible and often provide feedback. Our formal feedback system, operating twice throughout each six-month seat, allows a lot of feedback to be provided, which is appreciated."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"This varies greatly depending on the seat you are in. I have had some seats where they are exceptional and will give good, clear instructions before work and feedback afterwards, while providing you with praise where you have really contributed to the team. You get truly integrated into the team. In other seats you are provided with much less feedback and can feel like your contributions are not so appreciated."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"The experiences I have had so far are very good. Mentoring and supervision is supportive and thorough. This will of course vary between departments. I get feedback on most of my work, both positive and constructive."
First year trainee, Cardiff
"We have each been assigned a mentor who is very supportive, most fee-earners are approachable and supportive. Partners can be less accessible and you speak with them more infrequently."
First year trainee, Leeds

"The mentoring is good here. The partners are often busy, but if you have completed work for them they usually try to make time to discuss it. We have mid-seat and end-of-seat reviews which include feedback from everyone you have worked with. I also often get feedback from individual solicitors when I have completed work for them."
First year trainee, Manchester
"I have found that informal training is generally very good, but of course, this entirely depends on who you are working for, their expectation and of course, how busy they are! However, most people are very accessible and more than happy to take the time to explain a piece of work and the context behind it, which is always helpful."
First year trainee, London
"I have found that solicitors and partners are very accessible and that informal feedback is constant."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"The people I have worked for have been constructive and interested in my development. Rarely do you deliver a piece of work and hear nothing back. This cannot be underrated as an advantage as this is where most of your training comes from. It has a lot to do with the people here and is a credit to the firm."
Second year trainee, London
"Dependent on your team but I have had two very approachable supervisors who take the time to explain and give context before you carry out a task, and then give helpful and encouraging feedback afterwards."
First year trainee, London
"I have found that everyone is very approachable. Feedback can be offered on every task. Regular performance reviews enable you to see where you can develop and work to become a better lawyer."
Second year trainee, London
"I have found that my supervisors have been excellent. All solicitors and partners are fairly accessible and genuinely care about your future career so they will put time aside for you and make sure that you are progressing well. Partners are happy to offer support/recommendations for NQ roles."
Second year trainee, Manchester

2014

"You are allocated a 'buddy' on starting your training contract, where the mentors are very hands on; partners are also approachable."
First year trainee, Manchester
"Informal training is very accessible but supervision is not always structured, very detailed performance feedback is given at mid-seat and end-of-seat stages. There is also a lot of praise and recognition where due."
Second year trainee, Manchester
"The trainee supervisors are fantastic as they are supportive, and put time into helping you develop and improve. All members of the team from associates to partners give you work and take the time to explain what is required, they then give feedback and good work is recognised and praise is given."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"Solicitors and partners are generally very accessible at Eversheds. Feedback and praise varies between departments and individuals. Some people make use of a financial incentive scheme in which you get £100 on a credit card if you go above and beyond."
Second year trainee, Leeds
"Informal training is very accessible and patient, and no questions is too silly to ask. We are given constant feedback, and encouragrement and praise when it is due. We also have regular meetings with a supervisor and mentor."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"All the members of my team have been very open and helpful with their guidance. Especially the manner in which advice is given is great, as nothing has ever felt critical and any performance feedback has always been delivered with a strong developmental focus going forward."
First year trainee, Nottingham
"All tiers of colleague assist with my development. I have no qualms to ask questions of the senior management team, including the managing executive."
First year trainee, Leeds
