"As a corporate trainee, I could be involved with drafting share transfer documents including sales and purchase agreements for smaller transactions and ancillaries such as stock transfer forms and share certificates. I am also involved with undertaking research, attending client conference calls/meetings and working on due diligence projects as part of various corporate deals."

"I am very satisfied with the quality of work I am undertaking. There is an emphasis on ensuring that the work I do increases my technical skills."

"I sit in the property team and get a good mix of work with some more meaty matters including the drafting of leases and licences etc. There are also interesting research bits that are combined with some more standard land registry tasks or SDLT returns, for example."
First year trainee, Plymouth
"I get the same work as senior associates who delegate key tasks to me to attempt a first draft. While I do get involved in smaller tasks, these are essential to get a good foundation of the work a solicitor does."

"I really feel like a valued member of the team. Client contact is monitored to make sure that we get good exposure."

"The level of client interaction is dependent on which seat you are in. For instance, in banking and commercial litigation, I had client interaction on a day-to-day basis and attended numerous client meetings. Some of my fellow colleagues in different seats have not had as much client interaction."

"My role as trainee has varied depending on the nature and type of instruction. On high-value matters my role may be more likely to be supportive rather than contributory, but wherever possible I have been given the opportunity to actively participate and contribute to the matter in a role appropriate to my level of expertise. I have had a good level of client exposure through talking with them on the phone on a near daily basis. This has enabled me to further develop my interpersonal skills."
Second year trainee, Exeter
"I've had significant responsibility as a trainee. There's lots of client contact and you're given plenty of cases to run on your own with supervision. The on-the-job training is excellent as a result."
First year trainee, Plymouth
"I've had exposure to a high level of drafting and correspondence with multiple parties including court and experts. I've drafted letters to clients and have attended frequent meetings and mediations."
First year trainee, Exeter
"Each seat is different in terms of exposure but all seek to give good-quality workloads. In my current seat I am trusted to speak with clients and compile important, complex documents for key cases."
First year trainee, Taunton
"I have lots of daily client interaction and have been given my own files to run."
First year trainee, Exeter
"On only the second day of my seat I was given the chance to sit in on a conference call with clients as well as to undertake research tasks and costs reviews."
First year trainee, Exeter
"During my previous seat in commercial property, I was given high levels of client contact. I was the main point of contact for quite a few clients due to the fact that I had day-to-day responsibility over their file."
Second year trainee, Bristol
