Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP

Vacation Scheme

What we do

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer advises some of the world’s biggest companies on how to grow, strengthen and defend their business. If you’re keen to pursue a career in commercial law, we can offer you some of the best and most interesting work around.

Because we support clients wherever in the world they operate, you’ll play a part in delivering a consistent, high-quality service across the globe.

Our lawyers focus on at least one industry sector and work in one of seven practice groups: antitrust, competition and trade; corporate; dispute resolution; employment, pensions and benefits; finance; real estate; and tax.

What you’ll do

Every summer we run a number of schemes to give you an idea of our work, our clients and the sort of challenges you would tackle as a qualified lawyer.

During the three weeks you will:

  • undertake a research task (given to you by a partner);
  • plan and execute a group project (with fellow students);
  • take part in a one-day mock transaction (with fellow students); and
  • spend a day doing a project in the local community.

A mixture of fun and hard work

Our vacation schemes give you a good idea of what life is like as an international commercial lawyer, and what life is like at Freshfields.

It's fun as well as hard work. We make sure you hear enough, do enough, and meet enough of us to decide if you'd like to join us as a trainee lawyer.

You'll join one of our seven practice groups and you'll be looked after by a qualified lawyer.

What we’re looking for

It doesn’t matter what your background is, which university you went to or the degree you studied. What does matter is that you have intellectual talent, excellent written and spoken English, and that you work well with other people.

The work you’ll do with us will nearly always be complicated, so to do well you’ll need to enjoy being challenged.

If you secure a training contract with us, we offer a full range of benefits in our central London office including an on-site gym, and private medical and dental care.

There’s also the opportunity to get involved in our thriving pro bono programme and the many social networks that connect people across our firm.

The firm pays the fees and a maintenance grant for both the Legal Practice Course and the Graduate Diploma in Law.
