"Every trainee gets allocated a partner who will be there to answer any questions you may have, and an associate-supervisor who will be responsible for your daily work. I feel that there will always be support when you need it."

"I have seen that associates provide ongoing informal feedback. As a trainee, you also have a mid-seat review every six weeks and an appraisal every three months."

"Each trainee is assigned to a trainee intake partner, who are intended to serve as the trainees' point of contact throughout the training contract. In reality, these partners are often inaccessible which can make it difficult to find someone to discuss secondment/qualification opportunities with. That said, I have had great supervisors the whole way through my training contract and often meet with them for coffee or a chat, which is very useful."

"I have found that fee earners are always willing to help and give guidance - this is an element of the firm's very open culture."
First year trainee, London
"There are trainee intake partners (who I have found very helpful), supervisors (associate or senior associate), junior associate buddies; trainee partners in each department; and work allocation associates. Generally everyone is very supportive and willing to help."
Second year trainee, London
"Partners and solicitors are very approachable and they do make good mentors. There can be a great deal of pressure regarding performance feedback. Work usually well recognised but varies from person to person."

"Senior lawyers at Freshfields are very accessible. Lawyers that enjoy their work tend to want to explain it to those that they are training. This is the case here."

"Supervisors tend to be very good, although there is some variability. Generally, it is easy to find a mentor you get on with to guide you through your training contract."

"You are allocated to a Trainee Intake Partner who oversees your training contract. In each seat you have a mid-seat review with your supervisor (at the six week mark) and then a final appraisal with your department's trainee appraisal partner. So effectively you have formal feedback every six weeks."
First year trainee, London
"Varies between teams, exposure to partners is minimal but you are allocated a Trainee Intake Partner who mentors you throughout your training contract and who is a very useful sounding board."
First year trainee, London
"I have been lucky to work with a lot of great associates. Everyone has been really happy to help and you're given loads of credit for anything you do. Criticism has always been delivered constructively to me so far, and there are regular catch-up meetings and appraisals."
First year trainee, London
"Partners somewhat inaccessible. Associates always helpful."
First year trainee, London
"Depends totally on your supervisor."
