Fuller's

At Fuller’s, brewing beer and running pubs is more than just a business. It’s our passion.

We put our heart and soul into it - committing all our energy and creativity towards making Fuller’s beers, pubs and hotels just that little bit more special than the rest. And we never stop exploring new ideas, new ways to make things better, more interesting, more Fuller’s.

Yet while all our beers and pubs are crafted with this same passion, care and attention to detail, they each stand proudly on their own too - celebrated for their individuality and unique character.

This also holds true for our people - with the varied talents of our teams the driving force behind nigh-on two centuries of success.

The Fuller’s family

Fuller’s may have been around for more than 170 years, but we have a very modern attitude to inclusiveness, equality and diversity.

This is a place where everyone is treated with respect, and where people can achieve their potential regardless of their background. A place where employees quickly become part of the ‘Fuller’s family’.

Home-grown talent is very important to Fuller’s. One in 12 of our team members is undertaking one of our 13 development programmes - and for a company of around 4,000 employees, that’s a very wide range of tailored initiatives. We now have a complete development journey for every employee, from shop floor to senior manager.

Our family values go beyond just looking after our own though. We recognise our role in the wider community, too.

Charity work

Supporting local charities – both at our sites in Chiswick, Horndean and Duloe and in our pubs – is a key part of our day to day business. Last year, we donated around £340,000 across the Company for a whole range of national and local charities and local groups. The two biggest recipients are Shooting Star Chase and Seafarers.

In the last financial year, we raised just over £190,000 for Shooting Star Chase from a variety of activities as well as through a donation from sales of children’s meals. The money supports the work of this valuable charity that helps to improve the lives of children with life-limiting illnesses, both at home and in its two hospices.

Fuller’s has been a long-term supporter of Seafarers, donating £5 per barrel sold of our eponymous beer – equating to £29,000 in the last financial year. Seafarers UK, which celebrated its centenary in 2017, is a charity that helps people in the maritime community by providing vital support to seafarers and their families.

In addition, we have launched Pennies in a number of our pubs and we will be rolling this out further. This allows customers to round up to the nearest pound when they are paying using a chip and pin machine and is generating about an average of £25 per week, per site.

Finally, Fuller’s has an active Give as you Earn programme run through the Charities Aid Foundation and will match fund raising up to £2,000 per year per person.

Environmental responsibility

Brewing is a very green process and we still reduce our waste by sending the by-products of the brewing process for pig feed and for cattle and lamb feed during winter months. But we extend this commitment to the environment into our pubs and offices.

In the last financial year, we installed our first heat recovery system from cellar cooling at The Head of the River in Oxford, which should generate savings in energy use and environmental impact, as well as cost.  All our pubs carry out recycling on site and have their waste oil collected and recycled for bio-diesel.

Meanwhile, at our brewery in Chiswick, we have installed solar panels and converted to electric forklift trucks. In another move that has had both cost and environmental impact, we installed a Follow Me printing system whereby the user has to release printing using their ID card. This has reduced duplication and wastage and we have seen a 6% decrease in paper use.

There are still other avenues to follow to further reduce our carbon footprint, but in line with our values of doing things the right way and always looking beyond, we will continue to explore these going forward.
