I applied for my role with Galliford Try in summer 2014, after 2 years of working with an Affordable Housing provider following graduation. Wanting a more structured career path, I searched on various Graduate Job websites for roles and came across Galliford Try. Researching the company I was attracted by the wide range of schemes available from those small in scale to more high profile and innovate construction projects.
I began my role as a Planning Graduate working for the Linden Homes business in October 2014. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and obtaining planning approvals and Section 106 agreements
- Attending internal and external meetings, working with a diverse range of people, including landowners, public and private sector professionals, politicians, developers and local residents
- Instructing and attending various political and public engagement events for each scheme.
- Appointing a wide range of external consultants
Alongside this I have completed the Galliford Try Graduate Development Programme. The graduate scheme proved to be a valuable opportunity to share experiences with other Graduates, gaining a broader understanding of the Galliford Try group. The 6 training modules covered a range of topics such as Presentation Skills, Project Management and Financial Awareness.
Having completed the Graduate Programme, I have been promoted to Planner within Linden Homes, allowing me to gain the knowledge required to work towards full RTPI membership.
Alongside the competitive salary, available training and career progression the most beneficial part has been the colleagues I work alongside and the supportive environment they provide. Colleagues are enthusiastic and willing to share their knowledge reinforcing my professional development. Outside of work, we have taken part in a range of team building and fundraising activities including most recently completing the Great Eastern Run and raising almost £4000 for a local charity.
Looking forward, I hope to progress in my role with Linden Homes, embracing each different opportunity and challenge I can, with the aim of completing my full MRTPI by 2018.
