What made you choose Gattaca?

I was recommended to work for Gattaca by a few friends. They told me that not only it was a great job to have after University, but a good way to make money. I applied for a different recruitment company locally, but the social side of Gattaca was a real draw. Race nights at Goodwood, a huge Christmas party and big team socials really appealed to me.

What does your role involve?

I spend a lot of time talking to candidates and finding the roles that suit them best. I’m up for a promotion so I’m now spending a lot more time talking to clients and selling our recruitment services to a variety of different companies in the Maritime industry.

What training have you received?

All the sales training is really in-depth so I feel really prepared to start talking to candidates and clients on the phone. Having feedback on my calls at desk are really great for improving every day. My team were really supportive for training me on the market and giving me lots of top tips.

Gattaca will be paying for me to take my REC exams too, so that means I will have extra qualifications and help me develop even further.

What are the highlights of your first year?

I filled a Production Director role, which nobody in my team had placed for a while, so I was extremely proud of that. Speaking to candidates and finding them great positions is always fulfilling.

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

Recruitment can be a bit of a rollercoaster, so things can be a bit low if the client rejects your candidate, but the team are always there to pick you up in those times. But with that there are obviously the highs that come along when you fill a tough job or get the candidate their dream job.

The Learning & Development team are good at coaching you to read the warning signs that something might be going a little wrong in the process and always have advice to get around them.
