Gist

Interview: Tips & Advice

2018

"The application process usually consists of a telephone/video interview followed by a depot day (a taster day on site to experience a logistics environment) and then an assessment centre. I would recommend that candidates be themselves and let their personality show. You will often perform better when you feel relaxed and are yourself."
HR, Graduate, Newbury
"Learn about the company and practise generic questions. How you respond to questions is just as important as the content. Ask questions as there are two assessment days and the feedback you get can be really helpful."
Graduate, Chineham, Basingstoke.
"The employment process at Gist is extremely comprehensive and structured. It involves multiple stages including phone interviews, a depot visit and presentations."
Graduate, Thatcham
"The first stage is a telephone interview, the second is held at a depot and the third will take you to the head office. Referencing your previous experiences and being able to work with, and manage, people is a heavy focus. Situation management is a skill that's very highly rated."
Graduate, Barnsley
"Understand Gist, go to a depot and get a feel for the company if you can."
Graduate, Thatcham, Berkshire
"My advice is to really go for it. You are up against other graduates and industrial placement students so you want to be seen and noticed above the other applicants. Get involved, have opinions and don't hold back. Ask questions and do your research. You can never be too prepared!"
Graduate, Thatcham

"Questions are tailored to the critical performance requirements (CPRs) of the company. These include: drive, personal effectiveness, leading and energising, focus on the critical, delivering results, living the differentiating values (customer partnership, excellence, innovation and people)."
Graduate, Crewe
"There's a thorough and long interview process. Read up on the company, know some key facts and focus on the critical performance requirements. When going through the various steps, absorb as much as you can to use in the interviews."
Mid level, Stone
"Focus on your people and management skills."
Graduate,
"The interview process was pretty straightforward. There's a telephone interview, an insight day (based at a depot) and finally an assessment centre at head office."
