Jon was recruited through our graduate recruitment process in 2014 and was promoted to Acquisitions Manager following successful completion of the programme. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Jon is responsible for all aspects of the acquisition process including visiting agents, visiting sites, undertaking site appraisals and carrying out financial appraisals; he also supports Ben with the post-acquisition & disposal processes. At weekly internal meetings Jon presents the findings from sites he has visited to the senior management team, responding to questions and making recommendations on how to proceed. In preparation for these meetings he works closely with the technical team, in-house architectural practice and external consultants. In this role Jon has a Graduate reporting to him to assist him in his day-to-day role; this is also developing Jon's management skills as he has responsibility for training, development and performance management including appraisals. Training and development for Jon did not cease at the end of the graduate programme, a personal development plan for his new role has been drawn up in discussion with him, which is tailored specifically to the requirements of this new role. This continues to combine formal training, on-the-job development, quarterly formal individual performance reviews and annual appraisals.

Jon is a valuable member of the Goldcrest team, his research is of a very high standard and he works exceptionally hard. He has gained an enormous breadth of skills and knowledge since commencing with the Company and has developed a good network of professional contacts. This, together with his exceptional work ethic, has been recognised by promotion to his first management role.

From day 1 the learning curve was steep with hard work and exposure to a lot of responsibility; this provided me with the best foundations to learn and develop to the point where I have now been promoted into my first management role within two years. The structured scheme at Goldcrest provides graduates with a platform and all of the tools at their disposal in order to learn and develop rapidly. Throughout the process graduates will work with the wider team including architects, the technical team and finance offering the opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of the acquisition process. Due to the nature of the business hard work is well rewarded and there is real opportunity to independently influence decisions and gain responsibility. During my first two years I have been thoroughly exposed to the whole acquisition process and developed an advanced understanding to the point where I am able to independently work on projects and support Ben. I have enjoyed every minute and had a lot of fun along the way – there is still plenty to learn and I have challenges ahead of me, however I am very much looking forward to getting stuck into them.
