Francesca was recruited through last year’s graduate recruitment programme and commenced with us a few months ago. Reporting to Jon Hare, Acquisitions Manager, Francesca has already undertaken a wide variety of responsibilities – identifying sites, undertaking site appraisals, carrying out financial appraisals and assisting with the acquisition process. She works closely with the technical and design teams, together with external consultants, which have already given her a thorough introduction to the commercial aspects of working in the property industry. One of Francesca’s key challenges is to start developing her own network of contacts – in order to do this she will have to display significant knowledge and personal confidence together with the need to quickly establish her own credibility. Training and development on the programme are tailored specifically to Francesca’s requirements and combine formal training, on-the-job development, quarterly formal individual performance reviews which are supported by regular informal feedback, and annual appraisals. Francesca has fitted very quickly into both the Land and the wider teams in her first few months with us. She has displayed a quick grasp of the issues, an enquiring mind and a genuine eagerness to absorb as much information as possible. We are looking forward to watching Francesca develop in confidence and ability as she progresses through the graduate programme.

Goldcrest offers a unique Graduate experience and this was what initially attracted me to the programme. Having previously gained some experience in a large organisation, I was looking for a smaller company that could give me real responsibility and challenges and the opportunity to work closely with a hugely talented team and learn first-hand. The selection process gives you a very good understanding of the kind of person Goldcrest are looking for. It is just as much about testing you as it is ensuring you fully understand what the job entails. You are expected to think on your feet, come up with creative solutions to problems and demonstrate a commercial flair and passion for the industry – all relevant skills when you begin working. By the end of the selection process you will know whether Goldcrest is the right company for you. The graduate programme is well-structured and provides you with a clear understanding of what will be expected of you across the two years. You have regular one-to-ones where you can discuss your progress and identify specific areas where you would like to develop your skills. From day one you will be met with challenges and be given tasks to work on independently. Whilst you are expected to give everything your best shot, asking questions is strongly encouraged and you soon realise how quickly you are picking up new skills and gaining a greater understanding of the business. There is a real team spirit at Goldcrest and a feeling that everyone’s contribution plays an important part in its success. You will be working directly with all members of the team, learning first-hand from the executive chairman, directors and architects, all encouraging you to share your ideas and make the role your own.
