Interview: Tips & Advice

2018

"There are various stages including an application form, telephone interview, various online tests and a one-day assessment centre. The firm is also introducing a new test that involves various games with different levels. Make sure you read up as much as possible on current news as you can guarantee that you will be asked about current affairs at some stage throughout the process. Other than reading around, really do just be yourself."

"The application process consists of an online application and a number of online tests around verbal reasoning skills. Successful candidates progress to a phone interview, which is then followed by an assessment centre. I would recommend prospective applicants to consider what makes them stand out."

"When I applied, the application process consisted of a telephone interview followed by an assessment day that included a partner interview. It is now a video interview followed by an assessment day. Know the firm, what sectors it is particularly interested in and where it sees itself within the market. Also, be ready to talk about yourself."

"There's an online application, a video interview and an assessment centre including a partner interview. The concept of 'commercial awareness' is touted a lot but try to avoid reeling off rehearsed and basic answers on this."

"Find out as much as you can about the firm (in particular the firm's values) and really think about what it is you want to get out of your training contract."
First year trainee, Birmingham
"There is online testing and a video interview. The assessment day is an immersive experience, in which you are asked to complete tasks that you might be asked to do as a trainee. To prepare, know your application form and be able to expand on it and provide anecdotes on any points contained therein. Also, stay up to date with the commercial environment and make sure you have done your research on the firm."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"Understand the firm inside and out. It's a relatively new firm on the international stage so it has clear ambitions that are much easier to find out than other firms."
Second year trainee, Birmingham
"There's a written application, an online test, a video interview and an immersive assessment day. Don't be afraid to be honest about what you want from your career and don't try to 'fit the mould'. This is a firm of personalities and it celebrates differences."
