Industrial Placement - Finance

Who are we?

One of the world’s leading healthcare companies, GSK discovers, develops, manufactures and distributes life-saving vaccines, prescription medicines and consumer health products such as Sensodyne, Savlon and Panadol.

The size and scope of our organisation allows our people to answer some of the biggest questions facing everyone on the planet – questions about future healthcare needs and questions about building a responsive, innovative, global business to meet them – as well as questions about their own personal and professional growth.

What does a Finance industrial placement have to offer?

Finance in our business is not just about numbers. It’s about adding value and shaping strategy for the business. Our finance team works in partnership with the whole organisation to drive business planning, manage costs and maximise our cash flow. This helps us to generate new revenue for investment in research and development and enhance returns for our shareholders.

A Finance industrial placement will offer you wide-ranging experiences and the opportunity to develop yourself in many areas. You'll do a real job, with responsibilities and deliverables, whether you're embedded within R&D, commercial, manufacturing or corporate functions. The experience will give you a solid grounding in financial management, insights into the workings of a global business and an understanding of the financial rigour demanded by of one of the world’s biggest healthcare companies.

We place high priority on personal and professional development. Finance challenges will come thick and fast, so you’ll always be learning something new. As well as developing your financial expertise and business knowledge, you’ll gain valuable communication, planning, organisational, problem-solving, team-working and networking skills.

Do I have the skills?

No prior finance knowledge is necessary.  In fact we’re looking for students from different backgrounds to bring their fresh perspective into finance with a willingness to learn and an analytical mind.

You can apply for a finance role at GSK whatever you’re degree background.  You should be on track for a 2.1 or above in your undergraduate degree. We’re particularly looking for business, management, economics, maths and science students.

You should have achieved a minimum of 300 UCAS points (excluding General Studies) in your top 3 A levels as well as having achieved an A grade in GCSE maths or a grade A or B in A level maths. Your industrial placement must be recognised or supported by your university.

Whatever your degree, you'll be a self-starter with a strong interest in finance. Excellent communication skills are essential to establishing good working relationships, while strong influencing, analytical and multi-tasking skills will be required for your demanding roles. You should also have a resilient personality and a strong commercial mindset.

What’s in it for me?

Do you want to work somewhere that’s deeply committed to personal and professional development – offering a range of support and learning opportunities? Do you want trust and respect? Do you want the chance to learn about a company operating with an incredibly diverse collection of businesses and geographies? Do you want to flourish in an environment that plays a vital part in the changing face of the business? Most of all, do you want to enjoy the sense of purpose that comes from leading change in an industry that touches millions every day? That’s what you’ll get at GSK.
