R&D – Trainee Analyst Programmer

Who are we?

One of the world’s leading healthcare companies, GSK discovers, develops, manufactures and distributes life-saving vaccines, prescription medicines and consumer health products such as Sensodyne, Savlon and Panadol.

The size and scope of our organisation allows our people to answer some of the biggest questions facing everyone on the planet – questions about future healthcare needs and questions about building a responsive, innovative, global business to meet them – as well as questions about their own personal and professional growth.

What does an Trainee Analyst Programmer industrial placement have to offer?

You will be involved in the work of the department and a range of training courses will be available, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical and personal skills. The placement will enable you to understand the background and programming methods important in drug development. You will learn how to interact effectively with colleagues and customers to deliver responsive, robust solutions that will improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness of R&D at GSK.

You will be responsible for the planning, resourcing and outsourcing of studies. This will include working with internal GSK finance systems for billing and invoicing. There will also be an opportunity to write programs to analyse and report clinical and metrics data using SAS® software, working in close consultation with professional Programmer Analysts and Statisticians. You will gain experience using various software tools such as Spotfire® to create graphical visuals to present to joint leadership teams. The IP student also has the responsibility of maintaining and updating Team and Community SharePoint Sites used for internal/external communication

What’s in it for me?

A placement is a great chance to apply the skills you have learned at university and apply them within a global organisation such as GSK. You will be engaging with people both internally and externally on a daily basis which will provide you with a great foundation to develop your interpersonal skills and adaptability. The ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients alike provides a diverse set of opportunities to gain experience and firsthand knowledge whilst working on several critical projects and services. In turn, you will develop stronger organisational and problem solving skills which are transferable across any business area or organisation. All students are fully supported throughout your placement journey, whilst also having the freedom to develop your own individual experiences.
